I've seen this meme going around. I feel like most people already know these things, and most of it is in my profile anyway, but clarification is good. Plus I need something to do.

1. First Name: Brenda

2. Age: 28

3. Location: Memphis, TN, USA

4. Occupation: Franchise Coordinator at a giant hotel company. I help process applications to build franchised hotels, and draft all the contracts that are involved in developing and maintaining the hotels. There are a lot.

5. Spouse? Evan. We've been married three and a half years! Crazy.

6. Kids: None yet.

7. Brothers/Sisters: Debra (23) and Kevin (20). Both of them attend college/grad school in Nashville. Debra lives there full-time, but comes home to visit a lot. We're all very close.

8. Pets: My two cats, Gandalf (5) and Peach (3). I love them excessively. Gandalf was a stray kitten, found and given to me by my former boss, and we got Peach from a shelter as a friend for him. At first I thought I'd ruined his life, but now they're BFF.

9. List the 3-5 biggest things going on in your life right now:
1. Getting ready to have our kitchen cabinets painted. Our guy still hasn't called. I'm getting antsy.
2. Evan's parents coming to visit on Fourth of July weekend.
3. Planning other house and garden projects.
4. Preparing for major life changes in the nearish future.
Basically, not much is happening except getting ready for stuff to happen. :)

10. Where and for what did you go to school? I loved college. I went to The University of Memphis and got a B.A. in Communications with a concentration in Broadcasting & Electronic Media. I also took several elective conflict-management classes and wrote my Honors thesis on interdenominational dialogue. I minored in Geography and could get a second degree if I took eight or so more classes, but it would be useless to everyone but me.

11. Parents? Married 31 years. They live nearby and we see each other a lot. My dad works with airplane part vendors, and my mom is a pre-school teacher.

12. Who are some of your closest friends? Evan and my sister are my very closest friends, which is how it should be. kebhouseEmily and Kathy have been my best non-family friends since freshman year of college - we were roommates. Myla, Caroline, Alli and Casey. A few of my LJ friends. :) I'm rich in friends.

Six Things

I was tagged by lajeaLaura. :)

List 6 things about yourself which are either weird, habitual, unusual, or just plain fun to hear about. Then tag six to ten others in the El Jay world, who then, in the spirit of not wussing out, must read words like these and follow the same rules you did.

1. I can fall asleep at the drop of a hat. Evan was very startled by this when we were first married and I fell asleep in the middle of a conversation. I can also sleep easily in non-ideal conditions (i.e. buses and airports).

2. If I had it to do over, I might have played the oboe instead of the flute. There are so few oboe players that anything they play is considered good, whereas you have to be a prodigy to get anywhere with a flute. Plus, it seems like a fun instrument and it sounds neat.

3. I was at the Sears store in the Hollywood Mall on the day that Adam Walsh (son of America's Most Wanted's John Walsh) was abducted. I was two years old. My mom apparently left me for a second in the same toy department, about an hour before he was reported missing. She only told me about it recently - I don't remember it at all. Scary.

4. My senior honors thesis in college was about interdenominational dialogue. About halfway through writing it, I realized that my premise (that different Christian denominations could get along if they talked about their differences in a peaceful and respectful way) would probably never work on a large scale in reality. Which made it pretty difficult to finish the paper. :P I think my thesis advisor noticed my change of heart, but he was a holistic type of teacher who thought the journey was more important than the end product, so he gave me an A anyway. I really liked him.

5. I still like Exclamation perfume. :) My other favorite in middle school was Love's Soft Jasmine, but I don't think they make that anymore. I had a vast collection of Love's fragrances.

6. When we were in Miami right before my eighteenth birthday, my parents took me to the Keys to swim with dolphins at Theater of the Sea. It was a dream come true. I have a special photo album for the pictures of me with the dolphins.

I tag anyone who wants to do it!

From [livejournal.com profile] calypsobard. You hit shuffle on your iPod or computer music program, and post lyrics from the first twenty songs that come up. Then everyone guesses the songs. It's fun!

iPod is shuffling... )

Wow, this is really hard. I'll be super impressed if anyone pulls it off! Everything on my iPod is part of my "workout mix," if that helps anyone.

These are the CDs I come back to again and again - i.e. my "desert island" list. :) And no, they are not in order. And I've added stuff two or three times since I first posted this.

Guilt
What is yours?
Explain yourself
Culinary: Cool Whip straight from the container It's tasty. Sometimes I even add chocolate sauce. *hides*
Literary: Harry Potter fanfiction Sometimes I like fanfic better than the actual books.
Audiovisual: A Wedding Story on TLC I cry at every single episode. Even when I'm watching it on a treadmill.
Musical: Celine Dion I've been singing along since I was eleven years old. (But I never liked "My Heart Will Go On.")
Celebrity: Gwen Stefani No matter how weird she gets, I still admire her for her energy and uniqueness.

I don't tag people, but feel free to do this one. It's fun.

Brenda needs help.
Brenda Needs to Pull herself together !!!
Brenda needs to turn this perceived negative into a positive.
Brenda needs to be far away in a safe place.
Brenda needs a good lesson in diplomacy. Hey!
Brenda needs more rest and sleep. Amen!
Brenda needs a man like a fish needs a bike.
Brenda needs the uplifting support of her wacky Village pals. Alissa?
Brenda needs to come to Florida with us for new clothes. At last...someone who understands me! *sob*
Brenda needs to find another lawyer. But I already have Emily!
Brenda needs a makeover.
Brenda needs a big scoop.
Brenda needs love and strength to pull herself out.
Brenda needs to know that what she does is just as valuable.
Brenda needs to Shut up!

1. I never planned to have a cat, and now I have two.
2. I wrote a short novel when I was nine years old.
3. I think House Divided license plates are annoying.
4. A few days a year, my hazel eyes look very green. I'm not sure why they don't look green more often.
5. I have been on LJ since October 2001.
6. If I could only wear one brand of shoe for the rest of my life, I'd pick Steve Madden.
7. I was born on the bayou. Really.
8. My first pet was a cocker spaniel named Buffy.
9. I love pizza.
10. I always feel that going on an official diet will entail eating nothing but lettuce and celery, even though friends have illustrated that this is not true.
11. I love being outdoors...when the weather is nice.
12. My knees don't lock, which is one of the main reasons I dropped out of ballet - I could never do a split.
13. I have a sand collection that is becoming impressive as I travel more.
14. I really want to visit New York City.
15. I still haven't scrapbooked Emily's and Kathy's weddings, which happened in summer 2004.
16. I've never liked my voice.
17. I dream of having a "library" in my house.
18. Sometimes I still can't believe I'm married to the guy I loved unrequited-ly for three years.
19. My favorite episode of Friends is The One When Joey Finds Out (but I don't think that's the official title).
20. I don't think I'll ever be 100% satisfied with any job I have, because there are too many things I want to be doing. That's not necessarily a bad thing.

Whoever wants to...go ahead. :)

Look at your LJ "interests" list. If you have fewer than 50 interests, pick every fifth one. If you have between fifty and seventy-five interests, pick every seventh one. If you have over seventy-five interests, pick every tenth one. If you have fewer than ten, pick all of 'em. List them on your LJ, and tell everyone exactly what it is about these things that interests you so much. Here are my answers. )
