I wonder if you'll ever learn.

Hello all.

My weekend was good and productive. On Friday night I went to Daniel's graduation, then saw Troy with Evan and his friend Chris. I see that most people on the friends list hated it with a passion. Neither Evan nor I have read the Iliad (I know, shame on us), and we thought the movie was excellent. Something must be terribly wrong with us. :P I spent Saturday morning making bridal shower invitations with Jamie, then went to Daniel's graduation party, and then to my parents' to hang out for a while. Sunday was a good day. Our Sunday School teacher, inspired by last week's events in Iraq, has decided to teach on Islam for the next few weeks so we can all gain a better understanding of it. I think it's a great idea and am pumped for next week. After church there was a Musician's Luncheon for everyone involved in the music ministry and their families. I brought Evan and my sister. Ryan came too, because he's talking about taking up the French horn again. I hope he really does join. It would be fun to be in band together!

In the afternoon, Evan went to work, and Debs, Ryan, and I went swimming at Ryan's apartment complex. All our RUF-type friends had just returned from summer conference looking tan and rested, making me feel washed-out in comparison. I wasn't feeling quite right all last week, and the tiredness and general malaise kind of peaked yesterday. So an afternoon at the pool was just what I needed. Now I'm refreshed, have a little color and feel that my summer has officially begun. Around 6 it started raining again, so I went home, and Kathy and I worked on Emily's bridal shower invitations. Thus endeth the Shower Invitations Phase. One down, fifteen more to go. :P :)

With the constant rain, the humidity around here is absolutely unreal. I had to braid my hair several times last week, because there's nothing else I can do with hair three times its normal volume. I look like Monica in the Barbados episode. It's so frustrating.

Would someone please buy me a plane ticket to Florida?

Remind me again when you'll be in NH? I wonder if I'll still be there.

This was a fun post but I don't have a lot to say to it.

Oh except that it seemed like people on my friends list really liked that movie.

August 21-28. It would be so awesome if you were still there. :)

Yeah, it seems to be the scholarly types who don't like it, so I think that makes the difference. I read that some of the roles were extremely out of character as compared to the book. I'm pretty ignorant of Classics and mythology, so I was able to just enjoy it without any preconceived ideas. Now I have other things I wanted to say about the movie. Maybe I'll post more about it later.

I know nothing about the story except things I've read from journal entries. :)

I don't know if I'll still bet there then, as that is at least 1.5 months after getting there. But you never know!

I have a good hair 'fro today!

LOL!

Delta has tickets from Nashville to Orlando and Tampa for just over $100 right now! (I think it's through cheaptickets.com or some company like that).

What did you think of Troy's length? One person I just talked to said it was too long. I think Josh and I are going to see it this weekend.

[identity profile] chestnutcurls.livejournal.com 2004-05-17 11:59 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, really? :D

I think it was just the right length. I thought 3 hours would take forever, but I never got bored! Even in Return of the King, which I obviously love, I had moments of "Okay, are we near the end?" But this movie just flew by.

Awww, poor Brens with Monica hair! :( I'm sure it's not that bad!

I worked on baby shower invitations this weekend - must've been a shower-y type of weekend. :)

:) That's funny!

It's not so puffy today since we've had a brief respite from the rain, but now more is coming. :P

Sent you an e-mail, Monica. ;)

Okay! :)

The only reviews I've read of Troy say "Brad Pitt / Orlando Bloom is so HOT!"

I do hate when screen writers change books and characters, so I'm not sure if I'm going to shell out $10 for it. But I am interested in seeing it just to see what changes were made.

[identity profile] chestnutcurls.livejournal.com 2004-05-17 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, they are hot, I must admit. But that's not the point of the movie. :)

[identity profile] sasscfrass.livejournal.com 2004-05-17 12:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I've not read the "Illiad" either. *grin. I am looking forward to seeing Troy. I am glad you liked it. I did read "Antigone" by Sophocles. It's really good! :) I was impressed.

[identity profile] chestnutcurls.livejournal.com 2004-05-17 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think I've read that one!

I have naturally curly hair, so I have to deal with the fuzz and the afros a lot myself. Blech!!

I haven't read the book, either and I'm very excited to see Troy! Now it's just a matter of finding somebody interested enough to go with me.. lol.

[identity profile] chestnutcurls.livejournal.com 2004-05-17 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay for fellow curlyheads!

The movie has something for everyone...men and women! It shouldn't be hard to convince someone. :)

[identity profile] laura8225.livejournal.com 2004-05-17 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad you liked the movie! I haven't heard terrible things about it (yet), so maybe I'll get to go see it soon. I haven't read the book either, so I guess that will be a plus for me.

Yay for refreshing afternoons by the pool! :D

AWWWW! It's too bad I'm moving this weekend- I'd love to sit in on that class.

Well, I read "The Illiad" (a long time ago so as I don't remember much of it anyway, lol)...but I still loved "Troy." But I guess I knew I would anyway...seeing as I <3 Orlando Bloom (tho I already knew I'd hate his character, lol).
*shrug*
To each his own.
