December Book List

I know this is really late, but since Chain Reading was down, I wasn't sure what I had read in December. The answer: not much. Both re-reads.

This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen
The story of Remy, a smart girl who's justifiably cynical about love (her mom's on her fifth marriage). She's looking forward to leaving town at the end of the summer. Then she meets Dexter, a musician who refuses to let her get away. I didn't fully appreciate this book the first time, but now I see how good it is.

Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
A lot of people think this is nothing more than "the original romance novel." They are so, so wrong. It's historical and epic and has wonderful character development. If you are a Southerner, if you're a Civil War buff, if you appreciate good writing, read this. (Melanie Wilkes is one of my role models.)

Books for December: 2
Total books for 2006: 75

By the way, I think kiwiriaMaria has converted me to Bibliophil.

One of these days, Belle, we'll have to squeeze one of my books onto your list. :)

Heeey, it's finally back up!

I really do have to give GWTW another try. I severly disliked the movie, but figured the book would be better. So far I haven't managed to get past the first third of it. It's on my 'to read' list though. I haven't given up yet. Especially since I'm now discovering so many people, whom I'd usually say I share tastes with, who love it.

Glad I managed to convert you ;) What's your username there? Mine is kiwiria as always.

I went to the Chain Reading site and I really like it, so I signed up. The selling point for me: Keep track of books others have suggested.
Will do!

Thanks for sharing!

My etymological nerdiness takes note of your Melanic aspirations with some interest, considering your maiden name (if I'm remembering it rightly). If you were a Swede, and, for our purposes here, we were happening to reckon matriarchaly, you'd be (in a "Sarah, whose daughters you are if you do well and are not afraid with any terror" sense) Brenda Wilkesdatter. Hehe.

But I'm rarely comprehensible in my current state of silly caffeination, so never mind all that. Carry on! :D

I'm looking forward to reading This Lullaby! It was neat to meet Remy and Dexter in Just Listen....I totally didn't know that they had their own story, too. (Me = a newbie to Sarah Dessen's novels!)

Gone with the Wind = love. :-)
