Little Women - Louisa May Alcott (re-read)
Aside from Return of the King, this is my favorite book. I used to re-read it every December, but had been out of the habit for a couple of years. It just gets more and more wonderful; every time I read it, I discover something new. I'm definitely more of a Beth personality, but this time I identified a lot with Meg and her newlywed struggles. And I really want to visit Orchard House.

Teen Idol - Meg Cabot
A young actor comes to a small Indiana town, undercover, to research real high school life for an upcoming role. Quiet and responsible Jen is the only one who knows his real identity. High jinks ensue. It's a fun book, and for some reason I was picturing Orlando Bloom as the actor the whole time. :)

Miriam - Lois T. Henderson
I borrowed this from Evan's mom. It's part of a fictional series about Biblical women. I have one of the others, Abigail, and would like to read more, but the books are old and seem to be out of print. Anyway, it's about Miriam, the sister of Moses. Most of us know the story. I always find Biblical fiction interesting because there are so many takes on the people's day-to-day personalities.

The Time Traveler's Wife - Audrey Niffenegger
I read this entire book in a day at Evan's parents' house. It's a love story across time. Henry is a time traveler who can't control when he time travels or where he goes. Throughout her childhood, he keeps appearing in the meadow of a girl named Clare (he's a lot older at the time) and they realize they are destined for each other. Finally, they meet in real time - and he doesn't know who she is, because he hasn't met her yet. It's all very complicated and touching. I liked it a lot.

David: A Man of Passion and Destiny - Chuck Swindoll
This is part of the Lives of Faith series (I think that's what it's called). They're non-fictional examinations of the lives of various Biblical people. Swindoll is a fantastic writer and gave me plenty to think about. Highly recommended.

Goodnight Nobody - Jennifer Weiner
This is the story of a desperate housewife who discovers that one of her mommy playgroup friends has been murdered. Hungry for the truth, she launches a personal investigation into who this woman really was and who may have killed her, and examines her own past along the way. Jennifer Weiner has a knack for creating such real characters and relationships. Two thumbs up.
