storm warnings
Jun. 3rd, 2004 01:55 pmHappy Birthday to Dania! I wish Dania lived nearby, because she's one of the coolest people I've met in the last few years. She's endlessly generous and kind and patient, and fun to hang out with. Everyone should be friends with her.
Today is a great day. Yesterday was fun, too. Our department left early and had a delicious lunch at Cafe Samovar, a Russian restaurant. Then we met up with another department at the ballpark and watched the game from our company box. I had never been in a stadium box before and felt very posh. :) We had a great time...I really like all the people I work with. How many people can say that? I got to go home after the game, and Kathy and I had another unexpected night of stormwatching. Since we don't have cable, the weather was on every channel for two hours. The only exciting part was when they switched to the High 5 camera on top of the Channel 5 building (the same camera that showed us the July 22 storm coming toward our apartment) and there was what looked exactly like a tornado across the river in Arkansas. Dave Brown freaked out, and so did I. It turned out that a farmer was burning his fields (a common practice this time of year), and the updraft on the front of the storm was blowing the smoke up so it looked like a tornado. I've looked everywhere online for a screencap of it, but no one took one. I promise you, it was very cool.
Okay, I already feel like I've spent too much time on LJ today, so that's all. :)
