Can anyone recommend a community for creative writing exercises? The kind where they give you an idea or a scenario, some sort of jumping-off point? Anyone know what I mean? I've seen blogs like that, but it would take time to find them again and I'd probably forget to visit anyway. If I had ideas on my friends page, I'd be more likely to actually do something.

Thanks. :)

I don't know about blogs or communities, but I like this when I write. :)

That's a cool idea!

I could give you ideas! Ha. :)
(Not sure they'd be good ones!)

I use Writing.com (http://www.Writing.Com/?rfrid=battzeeyon). It's pretty easy to get lost in there, but it's great for getting feedback and there are all kinds of forums and contests you can get exercises from. A couple of places to try might be
The Writer's Cramp (http://www.Writing.Com/main/forums/item_id/333655?rfrid=battzeeyon)
The Muse's Alley (http://www.Writing.Com/main/handler/item_id/700291?rfrid=battzeeyon)
Christian Writer's Workshop (http://www.Writing.Com/main/handler/item_id/597712?rfrid=battzeeyon).
A-1 Writing Academy. (http://www.Writing.Com/main/handler/item_id/1089561?rfrid=battzeeyon)

My portfolio is here: writing.com (http://www.Writing.Com/main/view_item/user_id/battzeeyon?rfrid=battzeeyon). Email me if you have questions. :-)

There's a community here that one of my friends started called [livejournal.com profile] 2000_words. It has a topic posted weekly. Depending on the topic, I occasionally write bad haiku for it. ;)

Yeah, I have an Observation Deck (http://www.amazon.com/Observation-Deck-Tool-Writers-Present/dp/0811814815/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-1915321-1656909?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1184684652&sr=1-1), but something like what you have is what I need at the moment. :)

That book sounds real interesting. I'm thinking about writing but I'm pretty bad at it right now... will that book help? Or is it a book that puts story ideas in your head?

Several of my friends are members of [livejournal.com profile] musemuggers, and say it's great. I know they do weekly writing prompts and then crit each other's work. It's not Christian or conservative, so I can't say what you'd find there, but it might be worth checking out.
