I have hit my breaking point where political ads are concerned. (You know, when Phil Bredesen started his own business, I really doubt he was thinking, "Hey, I'm doing this because it will create jobs." So let's not give him credit for creating jobs purposely, okay?) Kathy and I think the candidates should make an offer: if an entire county votes early, the ads will stop. I think this deal would ensure 100% early-voter turnout. Well, maybe not 100%, because not everyone has a TV.

On Friday night I went to see The Ring with Ryan, Luke, and Myla. It was very scary. Kathy and Daniel joined us for dessert afterwards, and since we couldn't stop talking about the movie, they decided to see it too. So Kathy went on Saturday and was very freaked out. Unfortunately, she realized too late that I was out of town and she would be alone in the apartment that night, with all the freaky images in her head. She survived, though. :)

Debra's band didn't make finals at Contest of Champions. She was especially upset about it because, as guard captain, she would have gotten to lead off the Pass and Review. (This is when the finalist bands make a procession around the stadium before lining up to get their awards. The guard carries flowers, they salute the judges, everyone's happy. It's much like the Olympic opening ceremonies, and those bands are just as proud as Olympians when they march around that field.) She had been looking forward to leading off for my grandfather, who came up from Miami to see the show. I was so sad for her. Her senior season has been rough, unlike mine, which was full of victories and happy tears. But she had a good show, even though they lost, so it could have been worse.

Other than that, we had a pretty good time on our trip. We went into Nashville on Sunday, walked around the Opryland Hotel, went to the Opry Mills mall for a little while, and had a very scattered driving tour of downtown. :P The Opryland Hotel is one of the most beautiful places I know. It has huge atriums with all kinds of plants, trees, gazebos, sculpture, even waterfalls. It's amazing. Debra decided that I should get married there, and planned the whole wedding in about two minutes. :) I had to explain, again, that first I need to be dating someone, but I feel good that she hasn't given up on my getting married, even if the rest of my family has.

So it was a nice trip, but I missed the R.C. Sproul talk at IPC. That made me a little upset. And when I got home, Kathy told me that Evan had called me. Evan. Had called me. I called him back, but only got to talk to Ryan. Apparently Evan had been calling because he wanted to go see R.C. Sproul with me, and then do something afterwards. Then Ryan told me about the talk. Of course, it was great. So not only did I miss hearing one of the great theologians of our time, but I also missed the only time that my former best friend has wanted to see me in the last two months. Part of me wants to bang my head against a wall, but I guess I will survive.

It's definite- Gandalf is coming home with me tomorrow. This is the last kitty-less day of my life.
