you have no say at all
Aug. 18th, 2004 03:23 pmYay for nicer hair! I went to the salon last night to remedy my awful faded highlights. The situation was so bad, I didn't even need to tell my stylist that something new had to be done. She just held up an orangey lock and said, "Okay, this is what I'm going to do..." She put a lot of my natural color back in so the blondness will stop overwhelming my head. It feels good to be brunettish again. I think I might just get her to do that each time until I'm back to normal. I do like a little haircolor excitement, but maybe it's time to take a break.
Last night Evan and I had our own birthday celebration a little late. He hadn't had time to shop for me before, but did so while I was at the hair salon. He brought roses! I was all excited about that, but he also got me the Kelly Clarkson CD I've wanted forever, and Friends Season 6 (which includes many of my favorites, such as TOW Joey Loses His Insurance). Isn't he great? :D I love him.
Gift cards are cool and useful, but they kind of stress me out because then I want to spend them wisely. I go around and around, wondering if an item is really what I want to use the card for, or if I should save it for a rainy day. I can hoard it forever. Whereas if someone gets me an actual item, it takes the pressure off of me. I'm so weird.
The name badge situation at work grows ever worse. Yesterday as I was coming back in from lunch, I was digging in my purse for my badge and couldn't find it. I know the security guys know who I am, so when I couldn't find it by the time the elevator came, I thought it was no big deal. Well, one of them came over, held the elevator open, glared at me, and said, "Keep digging." I finally found it, but I was so angry and humiliated (there were several other people there). I'm starting to worry that I have a problem with authority or something, because now I start getting angry just thinking about coming into the building. I'm seriously on the verge of parking at the other building and coming in the long back way, just to avoid those guys. The other day my boss, who's worked here 27 years, didn't have her badge and they made her show her driver's license. Um, sorry, I thought this was America.
Here's a list in case you're curious how many
In Memphis
aardwolf - Lawson and I met at the Baptist Student Union my first semester of college. He was
yakko7178's roommate when we were dating. He was my California traveling companion, and we have lunch every Monday with our lunch group. Last year for my birthday he got me a box of Homestar Runner figurines, which live on a shelf in my cubicle.
admael - Ad goes to my church and is extremely cool. Ironically, we met through Jessica (who lives 2000 miles away) because we both mentioned U2 in an entry on the same day and Jess thought we should know each other. Small world.
azngal324 - I haven't spent much time with Teresa, but she's smart and cool. :)
calypsobard - Melissa and I made an LJ connection through Shana, then realized that not only had we gone to the same high school, but we also grew up on the same block and never met. We've hung out a few times and ought to do so more...once I have free time again.
derisive1 - Well, I'm marrying him. I don't think I need to elaborate. :D
rawee1 - Robin is a lot of fun. I can't remember now how we found each other, but she's come to a few of our lunches, and I've gone to some of her get-togethers. I'm excited about her wedding next month!
stacye13 - Stacy works about fifty yards from me. :) I met her shortly after starting here, because she kept receiving my mail for reasons neither of us ever figured out. After I got to be friends with Helen, I found out Stacy had a journal too. We visit each other when the workday becomes too boring/stressful, and talk about knitting and cats.
yakko7178 - Jeremy was my college boyfriend. We have stayed friends over the years and he's part of our Monday lunch group. He keeps harassing me to start going to his talented hairstylist sister, but I keep waffling. Someday. :)
Non-Memphians
anulyra - I got to meet Jen last year when we went to Detroit for my cousin's wedding. She and Jason and my family and I went out for Mongolian BBQ and then hung out at our hotel. We had a great time. I'll never forget her using her hand as a map of Michigan- I still laugh when I think about it. I wish we could have spent more time together and I hope she comes to visit sometime. :)
b1ff - I met Steven in San Francisco last year, when the LJ group was there. He's gentlemanly and nice, and can drive down Lombard without killing anyone, which is no small feat.
canticles - I had the privilege of meeting the person with half my brain last year. :) Shana's visited two (or three?) times. The first time we met was when she came to town on choir tour, and another time she spent the night at my apartment and went through a tornado warning with me. Fun times.
classy_gal - Lisa's been through town a few times, and once we met up at a Starbucks. She's beautiful and nice.
danialand - Dania is the coolest. I am glad to have spent time with her on both sides of our California exchange program. :)
helenangel - Helen and I used to work together, but then, to my sadness, she moved away to my home place of South Florida. I miss her at work and at our lunches.
jmcphers - Jonathan is another of the Californians I've met twice. He's fun to have around, partly because he appreciates my bad puns.
moredetails - I have met Jessica twice and am fairly sure I'm about to see her again in New Hampshire! I recommend everyone meet her, because she is fun.
tingilya - Danielle came up for my birthday last year, and we went to see the man, the voice, The Clay together. It was awesome. With all our common ties, I'm sure we'll meet again at some point.
Wow, that took forever!
