The weather drama continues. Last night, after watching an hour or so of the coverage, I decided to do an exercise tape. About ten minutes into it, I glanced out the window and saw that everything was bathed in this creepy green light. I quickly gave up on the tape, since I wasn't paying attention, and turned the coverage back on in time to hear the head meteorologist say, "If you live in Memphis, you ought to look outside right now, because it looks...freaky out there." I started taking pictures through the windows. They don't do the weirdness justice, but it ought to give you an idea...

Then MaryElaine called to tell me there was a rainbow, so I went outside to look at that:

So I sat by the window, transfixed, for about an hour. I have needed a Weather Event to get excited about, so this pleased me. :)

Me (thinking): Wow, those clouds look a lot like mammatus clouds.
TV Meteorologist: You know, the clouds almost look like mammatus clouds!
Me: Hee hee. Still got it.

On a completely different note, I'm starting to feel like I have no control over my own life. I don't mean in a deep theological sense. I mean in the sense that a co-worker asked me to house-sit for her in a few weeks, and I told her I'd have to ask Kathy and my mom to make sure I wasn't busy. :P I am supposed to be at something almost every day this month. I also have to buy presents for approximately 1383 people, and finish the scrapbook which is quickly becoming a boulder hanging over my head. Usually, I like being busy and I like giving presents. But right now it's all just stress. I have a band practice tomorrow night, and instead of being a happy thing, it's just one more thing I have to do. This time of year is a killer. At least my finals days are over.

I love 'strange light'. It's the photographer part of me.

So what causes that? That's weird. I have an interest in weather, but not to the extent of being a meteorologist, just that I want to witness all types of weather.

It looked to me that the sunset was reflecting funny off the tail end of the storm clouds.

Hm.. weird. I like it when sometimes it's really gold out for that same type of reason.

Yay, I've been wanting to share this. :) My dad explained to me what causes the green sky in a bad storm. The clouds have some, I guess, plant molecules in them from the tornadoes. In addition to that, there's a lot of ozone present in the clouds when there's bad lightning. So a greenish sky indicates that the atmosphere is really unstable and could produce a tornado. I can't believe I never learned this before yesterday.

I was just talking to my friend this morning about this. In Texas there was a tornado nearby (I didn't see it, although my class had to go down to the basement, but I was sleeping in my dorm. :P), and I think the night before the clouds were kind of a weird color. Everyone was explaining to me that it was tornado weather. There was also that strange calm feeling. Awesome.

I haven't gotten to see a whole lot of strange weather phenomena, but since we're on the topic, I'll tell you about the clouds I saw today. Walking back from class, I saw the sky filled with these very fake looking clouds. They just seemed so hyper-real, that they couldn't really be real. I could see every contour of every shape because it was like they were all lined in blue-ish purple. It was really pretty, and I thought about trying to paint clouds like that.

Those pictures are neat! I saw about the exact same thing last Summer at my aunt's house. A psycho storm came out of nowhere and moved through, and after the rain stopped and all, there was a funky orange/yellow color totally everywhere. I mean, it was so heavy that when you went outside, you almost thought that your eyes were having trouble. It was so weird, but SO cool!

Cool pics! I love rainbows!! We've been having some storms around here too...nothing like there in TN, but it's been raining like crazy! YAY.

We should completely have a stress party. =^_^= I'll bring the Prozac and the Ritalin, if you bring the punch. ~_^

Wow...

My dad was a "weather man" *don't know the exact title* in the navy, so he would always point out the different types of clouds to me...so clouds and weather in general are fascinating to me...

Are you near Tornado alley?

A meteorologist? :)

Well, Memphis is sort of near Tornado Alley, but not so near that it's a part of it. The surrounding areas tend to get a lot more tornadoes than we do in the city. There are a lot of really silly theories about that. :)
