don't fool with my boo
Nov. 3rd, 2003 03:51 pmHello, and welcome to Memphis 2003: The Eternal Summer. It is November 3. I am wearing a tank top. Last night I was forced to turn on the air conditioning. I might as well be back in Miami. :) My weekend:
Friday: Halloween parties, one at Kathy's parents' and one at Royce's. Our appearance at both was brief, since Evan was very sleep-deprived and I was pretty tired myself.
Saturday: I drove to Murfreesboro with my mom, and we met my sister at MTSU for Contest of Champions. There's always a common theme in the marching shows, usually depending on popular movies or what DCI did last year. This year, difficult concert music was brought onto the field in a big way. The two main themes seemed to be art and religion. There was a Chagall show, a Moses show, an Abraham show, a show called "Chiaroscuro" (which was awesome, but I heard Strong Sad in my head the entire time), and, my favorite, Brentwood High School's "Dream." Brentwood is consistently creative and excellent. In 2001 they did a Gettysburg show that ranks in my top three shows I've ever seen. They didn't disappoint me this year. This show was so neat I can't even describe it. Of course, they lost the championship to McGavock, because McGavock has won all but a few COCs since 1964 in their grand tradition of Paying Off the Judges. They definitely didn't deserve to win this year. I have a lot more band stuff to say, but I'll refrain since no one knows what I'm talking about. :) Anyway, that was Saturday.
Sunday: We went to Opry Mills for lunch and shopping. My mom was generous to me since I have no money. I got a red hoodie, a really cute skirt from Old Navy, and a pair of black high-heeled Rampage shoes that I am in love with. I even love the box. It's neon pink. I feel very Elle Woods. After that we came home. I barely made it to Bible study, then had dinner with some people, and then went to Evan's new apartment (which he had moved into while I was gone). It's nicer than I thought it would be for the price. But best of all, it took me three minutes to get home from there. When light returns in the spring, I can even ride my bike there. I love this new arrangement. :D

Here we all are at Kathy's parents' house. The scary thing to the right of me is Ryan. He bought a gorilla head and hands, and went as Gorilla Warfare. :)

Royce as Morpheus. Note the impressive webbing on the ceiling and wall- he and Ryan did that themselves.

Me and Debra with her best friend Meghan. Note that Debs has straight hair, which took her friends three hours to accomplish. She looked so bonita with her hair that way that I have finally been convinced to try it. Next time she comes home, she's going to experiment on me.

A family of cute pumpkins outside Debra's dorm.

Date: 2003-11-03 03:03 pm (UTC)So you decided to try hair straightening! I'm surprised it took 3 hours, actually.. I can't really tell how straight it is in that picture. I bet I could get your hair straight in 2 hours. ;)

Date: 2003-11-04 06:21 am (UTC)Even if I do, this is by no means going to be a permanent thing or even a half-the-time thing. I don't have the time to go through that on a regular basis. Plus, I already feel like a traitor to my curliness. :P

Date: 2003-11-04 10:43 am (UTC)Brenda, don't feel like a traitor--it's not like you're getting new hair implants, you're just trying a different style. It's like putting it in a ponytail, only it takes about 15 times longer to fix. :)

Date: 2003-11-04 11:25 am (UTC)Jonathan seems to like my hair both ways. He doesn't seem relieved to see my hair one way or the other, he just likes them for different reasons.

Date: 2003-11-04 12:19 pm (UTC)Yeah, Evan likes my hair. I guess it's not such a big deal. It's just always been a very touchy subject for me. :)

Date: 2003-11-04 12:36 pm (UTC)No, I just have a thing about people who think that straight hair is superior and all curly-haired people need to conform. :) There are people like that. Ironically, I found out recently that curly hair is actually a dominant trait. So my kids will be doomed. :)
