come, they told me
Dec. 23rd, 2003 02:54 pmHappy Christmas Eve Eve! I used to make a point of doing something fun every Christmas Eve Eve, like going ice skating or to a movie. Those days are gone, I guess- at least until I have kids. To get everyone in the holiday spirit, I took pictures of decorations at home and work. Also, some plants. Enjoy. :)
The ever-thoughful Dania sent me an awesome package! It had chocolate, a candle, and a specially made Christmas CD. I listened to it while I did data entry this morning, and it kept me relaxed. Thanks Dania!
I feel elderly saying this, but I'm having major back problems. At the wedding I went to in November, I danced for three hours in my three-inch heels. I've had a painful, pulled spot in my lower back ever since. I can't do the rolling exercises in Pilates anymore. I thought it was going away, but it's been hurting more and more when I wake up in the morning. Today it feels pinched and hurts a lot. I'm not sure what to do.
1. What did you do in 2003 that you'd never done before?
Many things, but my two favorite new things were seeing the Pacific and being Evan's girlfriend. (Oh, and also having my first flute solo!)
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn't make any, beyond the usual goals of growing in grace. My sole 2004 New Year's resolution is to meet
rebianaly. :)
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nope.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Mrs. Sweeney, my former teacher. I hadn't seen her in a couple of years, but I always considered her "close."
5. What countries did you visit?
Canada (for an hour)! I also added three new states- Nevada, California, and Michigan. It was a very productive year travel-wise.
6. What would you like to have in 2004 that you lacked in 2003?
A consistently clean apartment; a better attitude; and the obvious thing. :)
7. What dates from 2003 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
May 16: Kathy got engaged. June 13: I arrived in California and met Jessica, Dania, and Jonathan. July 22: Summer Storm 2003 decimated my neighborhood. August 16: my birthday, the American Idol concert, and meeting Danielle. September 11: my very platonic friend Evan suddenly held my hand while we were sitting on the couch. September 12: Evan and I started dating officially, and Emily got engaged.
Incidentally, I have noticed that a lot of other people experienced a major life event right around September 11. Shana started dating Phillip, Rebecca found out she was pregnant, etc. Any others, speak up! That day holds a lot of power for good or ill, I guess. (Robert Jordan would call it a bubble in the Pattern.)
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Becoming a member of the church band, and getting more involved in my church, in general. It was something I should have done a long time ago. Since I've started playing again, I feel like a part of me has come back to life.
9. What was your biggest failure?
I didn't do as much as I could have to prevent a friend from making a wrong, bad decision. I'm pretty sure she would have done it anyway, but it might not have destroyed our friendship the way it has.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Several sinus infections, and tendonitis in my wrists.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
My new computer!
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Evan, for being a humble, amazing person and totally making up for three years of confusion.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
My aforementioned friend.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Target. I need to feel more ashamed about that.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Going to California and dating Evan. Catching a theme here?
16. What song will always remind you of 2003?
I will be offering my 2003 CD soon to answer this question. It's already burned, but I have to work on the cover and liner notes.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? happier by far
ii. thinner or fatter? fatter :(
iii. richer or poorer? poorer
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Exercising and reading. I wish I could have spent more time with Jennifer when I was in Detroit! She is fun.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Cleaning, working, and worrying.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
With my immediate family at my parents' house.
22. Did you fall in love in 2003?
I had already fallen most of the way; I just got the final push. :)
23. How many one-night stands?
Um, no.
24. What was your favorite TV program?
Friends, closely followed by Scrubs.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I'm pretty much annoyed by the same people. :P
26. What was the best book you read?
Traveling Mercies by Anne Lamott (I just finished it). On a much lighter note, I also loved The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Clay Aiken.
28. What did you want and get?
Evan as my boyfriend.
29. What did you want and not get?
To see Lion King. I still might get to go, though.
30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Return of the King.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
24, and I've already talked about it.
32.What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Winning a million dollars?
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2003?
Old Navy meets Petite Sophisticate.
34. What kept you sane?
God. Everything else contributed, in positive and negative ways, to my insanity. :)
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Clay Aiken. Duh.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Probably the war.
37. Who did you miss?
Kathy and Em. Even though I live with Kathy, I saw her very little.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
I met a lot of LJ people this year and I can't pick just one of you!
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2003.
When life is really dragging you down, remember that this world is not your home and someday your struggles will be over.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
There's a song that inside of my soul
It's the one that I've tried to write over and over again.
I'm awake in the infinite cold
But You sing to me over and over again.
So I lay my head back down,
and I lift my hands and pray to be only Yours
I pray to be only Yours
I know now You're my only hope. - Mandy Moore

Yes, and the logical next step is that you marry Evan and move to California. Pure bliss!
