When I came into work this morning I was greeted with sad news. My boss's mother has had a serious stroke. Right now her recovery is iffy. I'm really worried about my boss- she is very close to her parents. So things are quiet and serious around here today while we wait for more news. I also feel sad/worried about some other things. I should be happier. Let's get happy:

- My back is feeling a lot better!
- I came across an excellent wedding planning book at the bookstore. I can't use it, but I wanted to reference it for you brides-to-be. :)
- Here's an accidental laugh-fest: beauty.about.com. Some of the actual names of the how-tos: "How To Apply Makeup for the First Time Over 50" (because so many women are introduced to makeup during middle age), "How To Slow Down Aging With Bananas" (what about cucumbers?), "How To Create A Hairstyle Perfect For Summer Flirting" (not for use during winter flirting).
- I got my Ouidad sampler pack in the mail yesterday! Yay for new curly hair products.
- My tub has been unable to drain for two days. I'll make this happy by hoping that the plumber will fix the problem today. It's 37 degrees, so I cannot bathe outside in a stream like the pioneers.
- Apparently, churches are finally taking notice that not everyone is getting married. This article isn't exactly cheery, but it's encouraging and I wanted to share.

In even more random news, I am forced to admit that I had never heard "Hey Ya" until about a week ago. Now it's all over the radio and I have to listen to Evan intone "You know what to doooooo" constantly. :)

You should consider yourself lucky - I'd like to never have to hear it again! Or have to see any tragically un-hip white boys try and dance to it!

Ah, but they're so funny trying to dance to it. :)

Hm..how did you come across that book, hm? ;)

I already know my summer-flirting hairstyle: crew cut. Watch out boys, this will be the Summer of Sexy in my town!

I was hanging out in the bookstore and they had a huge wedding display! So I decided to look- for Kathy's and Emily's benefit! I mean, can't I help my friends?! Because that was my only reason! I swear! :)

ROTFL! Oh my gosh.

Those names from about.beauty.com were hilarious. (-:

Tub draining problems are the worst; at least most sinks can be plunged, but most tub drains are designed so that plunging is difficult or impossible, and tend to be plugged with difficult-to-dissolve stuff (e.g. human hair).

Thanks for the article on churches and singlehood. Good stuff to know. Perhaps more people have the "gift of celibacy" than was thought a hundred years ago... or perhaps it's just a side effect of modern culture and attitudes toward marriage. Or both.

I think it's probably the latter, unfortunately.

Thanks for sympathizing on the tub thing. It is very annoying. Yesterday the plumber couldn't get the round thing off of the wall to get in there. I'm worried that this could be a long-term repair. :(

It's an Outkast song that is spreading like a cancer. Don't worry, if you haven't heard it yet, you will. :P

shake it like a polaroid picture... ;)

Glad your back is feeling better! And thanks for the article on singles in the church - really interesting. It would be nice if singles groups didn't so often turn into "Christian meat markets" (LOL).

Ugh! I'm married, but I agree. In the church in which I was raised, no one was allowed to date until they were 18 (officially. People did it anyway). But then as soon as you were 18, it was off to the singles' events with you! Problem? The only people that seemed to attend the singles' events were men over thirty who usually had really obvious reasons for why they were still single, and it had nothing to do with choosing celibacy. What was supposed to be a "supportive and congenial atmosphere" was just...well, creepy.

My sister bought her wedding planner before she was engaged. It was a "just in case" item because who knows when you might all the sudden need it and it might go out of print or something! I mean- one can never be too careful. (Just a thought.)
Oooooh! I really hope your tub is fixed soon- what will you do otherwise? Do you have friends nearby that can let you shower? It sounds like a really yucky problem. (blech)
Okay so I didn't get the whole "Hey Ya" thing- what is that all about!?!??

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I mean, I don't believe in long engagements, so the whole thing is going to be like a 100-meter dash. Someday. :P :)

I can just go to Evan's. It is a yucky problem, though.

Should I be disturbed that the reason you can't bathe outside is because of the cold? :P

The budget wedding planner would be so good if I didn't already hire a human one, and if my parents actually had a budget to go along with. I keep trying to keep cost down, but they are doubling everything. I think they want a really nice party.

I'm so glad I have angela- I certainly recommend her- she is saving us money on lots of things- it will pay for having her reduce my stress as the time draws near. She is THE BEST. I adore her.

The article titles are funny...but at least you expect stuff like that from a beauty site. I once went to a women's retreat that was supposed to help us unlock our potential as Christian women. The first speech, no lie, was a list of tips like "Keep in shape;" "Follow a skin-care regimen;" and "Get a good haircut." Apparently God not only wants us to grow in grace and knowledge, it's really important that we have skin like a newborn...I almost walked out.

Oh--and I totally understand wanting to "get happy," but I want you to know that I'll be thinking of you and praying for whatever's worrying you. I hope it turns out to be something like most of my worries, where later on I can't believe I ever worried about it.

*hugs*
