lend me some sugar, I am your neighbor
Jan. 7th, 2004 03:15 pmWhen I came into work this morning I was greeted with sad news. My boss's mother has had a serious stroke. Right now her recovery is iffy. I'm really worried about my boss- she is very close to her parents. So things are quiet and serious around here today while we wait for more news. I also feel sad/worried about some other things. I should be happier. Let's get happy:
- My back is feeling a lot better!
- I came across an excellent wedding planning book at the bookstore. I can't use it, but I wanted to reference it for you brides-to-be. :)
- Here's an accidental laugh-fest: beauty.about.com. Some of the actual names of the how-tos: "How To Apply Makeup for the First Time Over 50" (because so many women are introduced to makeup during middle age), "How To Slow Down Aging With Bananas" (what about cucumbers?), "How To Create A Hairstyle Perfect For Summer Flirting" (not for use during winter flirting).
- I got my Ouidad sampler pack in the mail yesterday! Yay for new curly hair products.
- My tub has been unable to drain for two days. I'll make this happy by hoping that the plumber will fix the problem today. It's 37 degrees, so I cannot bathe outside in a stream like the pioneers.
- Apparently, churches are finally taking notice that not everyone is getting married. This article isn't exactly cheery, but it's encouraging and I wanted to share.
In even more random news, I am forced to admit that I had never heard "Hey Ya" until about a week ago. Now it's all over the radio and I have to listen to Evan intone "You know what to doooooo" constantly. :)

Date: 2004-01-07 01:34 pm (UTC)You should consider yourself lucky - I'd like to never have to hear it again! Or have to see any tragically un-hip white boys try and dance to it!

Date: 2004-01-07 01:36 pm (UTC)I already know my summer-flirting hairstyle: crew cut. Watch out boys, this will be the Summer of Sexy in my town!

Date: 2004-01-07 01:37 pm (UTC)Tub draining problems are the worst; at least most sinks can be plunged, but most tub drains are designed so that plunging is difficult or impossible, and tend to be plugged with difficult-to-dissolve stuff (e.g. human hair).
Thanks for the article on churches and singlehood. Good stuff to know. Perhaps more people have the "gift of celibacy" than was thought a hundred years ago... or perhaps it's just a side effect of modern culture and attitudes toward marriage. Or both.

Date: 2004-01-07 01:57 pm (UTC)Thanks for sympathizing on the tub thing. It is very annoying. Yesterday the plumber couldn't get the round thing off of the wall to get in there. I'm worried that this could be a long-term repair. :(

Date: 2004-01-07 01:55 pm (UTC)Glad your back is feeling better! And thanks for the article on singles in the church - really interesting. It would be nice if singles groups didn't so often turn into "Christian meat markets" (LOL).

Date: 2004-01-07 02:15 pm (UTC)Oooooh! I really hope your tub is fixed soon- what will you do otherwise? Do you have friends nearby that can let you shower? It sounds like a really yucky problem. (blech)
Okay so I didn't get the whole "Hey Ya" thing- what is that all about!?!??

Date: 2004-01-07 02:19 pm (UTC)Should I be disturbed that the reason you can't bathe outside is because of the cold? :P

Date: 2004-01-07 05:35 pm (UTC)I'm so glad I have angela- I certainly recommend her- she is saving us money on lots of things- it will pay for having her reduce my stress as the time draws near. She is THE BEST. I adore her.
