party in the city where the heat is on
Jul. 4th, 2003 11:32 amI bet you guys are surprised to hear from me. Well, my grandfather does indeed have a computer, and we're currently sitting around in a bored sort of way, so I thought I'd give you an update on my trip so far.
Wednesday was a very, very long day. I left Memphis at 7 am, had a 3-hour layover in St. Louis, then flew to Miami. As we approached the Gulf coast of Florida, the captain said there was bad weather in Miami and no one could land, so we circled over Naples for 45 minutes while I valiantly tried to hang on to the 2 pretzels I had eaten that day. :P Then we re-routed to West Palm Beach to refuel, sat on the tarmac there for an hour, took off again, flew far out over the ocean in a scary and unnecessary way, and flew to Miami. As we were landing, just before the wheels touched the runway, the plane suddenly pulled up again and made another circuit of the city. It was the scariest thing that's ever happened to me on a plane. So, after a six-hour flight that was supposed to take two and a half, I was Home at last. After my family picked me up, we went to a family friend's house for an amazing authentic Cuban dinner, which made up for all my irritation.
Yesterday was a great day. We went to the beach in the morning, followed by a huge lunch at Mario's, my favorite restaurant in the entire world. Then my mom and I went thrifting (Miami thrift stores are the best- there are always tons of designer clothes) and I got lots of new stuff. Then we had dinner at another family friend's house. There's something weirdly nice about seeing people who knew me when I was little.
Today we're having a huge cookout at my grandfather's house, so we're just sitting here waiting for food and/or people to get here. And now I have to go, because Debra is waiting for the computer. I'm going to go sit in the hammock. Happy 4th of July!
