December Book List
Dec. 30th, 2008 08:22 amI'm not going to finish any more books this year, so let's do this.
Little Stalker by Jennifer Belle
One of the many books I've found while looking for another book. Rebekah is a writer who hasn't written anything in years. She's an obsessive fan of Arthur Weeman (obviously Woody Allen). Through an odd chain of events, she finds herself in an apartment that looks into his kitchen window, and then starts sending him letters in the voice of her thirteen-year-old self. The book is graphic in parts and Rebekah honestly seemed mentally ill to me, so this is not for super-sensitive readers, but by the end I had to admit that it's kind of brilliant.
Life's a Beach by Claire Cook
A lot of my friends have read and liked this. It's about two over-forty sisters who still haven't found their places in the world - even though one appears to have it all together and one appears to be adrift. They work it all out in a beach setting. I liked it okay, but it didn't really grab me.
The Kalahari Typing School for Men, The Full Cupboard of Life, and In The Company of Cheerful Ladies by Alexander McCall Smith
Books 4, 5, and 6 in the Detective Agency series. The plot really moved along in these. :) I've already read book 7, Blue Shoes and Happiness (it was where I inadvertently discovered the series), so I'm ready for #8 now.
Books for December: 5
2008 total: 89
Not the greatest showing ever (I hoped to hit 100 again), but not bad. I blame it on my magazines (InStyle, Newsweek, Real Simple, Better Homes & Gardens, Today's Christian Woman, and Paste, plus Evan's Car & Driver). It takes time to get through them every month, or week. Magazines snowball very quickly. The more you subscribe to, the more subscription offers you get in the mail, and some are insanely cheap. I'm currently trying to resist Domino ($12 for two years!!). I recently gave in to a free subscription to Entertainment Weekly, so that's not going to help the situation. :)
Anyway, thanks for reading with me this year!
