We were on a break!
May. 27th, 2004 03:42 pmCongratulations to the proud new parents, Fraser and Carolyn! :D
I want to let you guys know that I might not be as chatty on LJ for a while. Lately I haven't been as focused on my work as I should be. I haven't been very aggressive in asking for more work, and I'm going to try to change that. Christians are supposed to model excellence, and I've failed to do that in my job just as I have in myriad other areas of my life. :P Plus, I've realized LJ might have too much influence over me. You guys probably have no idea how much I think and talk about all of you. Sometimes after I've spent ten minutes telling Evan about the hot comment thread of the day, I think, "You know, this is kind of sad." I talk to some of you more than some of my "real life" friends. So I'm taking a little step back. I'll still be posting, reading, rejoicing and praying with you guys, but I'm retiring my Commenting Queen crown for a while. (Unless it's a really slow day. :))
Also, as I told Jessica earlier, my tendonitis is back full force. After work yesterday I was in pretty serious pain- I could hardly lift the teapot to make the tea. This alarms me, since the ergonomic keyboard had fixed the problem before. It's probably just a flare-up, but less typing can only help me.
1. In which areas of life are you the most disciplined?
Reading and gaining knowledge (not so much of the Bible, though, unfortunately- more about general things), keeping a clean house, arriving places on time, reaching out to others.
2. Name some areas of life where you struggle to be disciplined.
I worry too much (lack of trust). I lack motivation for tasks I'm not that interested in (laziness). I count my chickens before they're hatched (impatience). I'm too sensitive and too concerned with what others think of me (pride). Also, I love food (gluttony).
3. Looking back over the past 2 to 5 years, what are some areas where you have grown or changed your perspective considerably?
Well, my theology completely changed three or four years ago. Other than that, I'm a lot more relaxed and optimistic than I used to be. Worrying is still a problem for me, but hard as it may be to believe, I worry much less than I used to. That's Evan's influence, I think.
4. Besides all of the basic rooms and appliances, what are some special (yet realistic and reasonable) features that you would like in your ideal home (i.e. fireplaces in many rooms, wrap around porch, etc.)?
I'd love a wraparound porch with a swing, and/or a balcony. But I want a brick house, and porches tend to go on siding houses, so I don't know. Also, I have always dreamed of a window seat.
There's a house on my walking route that I just love. Hey, I should take a picture of it.
5. Have you ever seriously pursued a career, such as acting, singing, etc. that had the potential to make you rich and famous? If so, what all did you do in your pursuit? If not, would you like to? Is fame or fortune of any interest to you?
When I was nine, my teacher wanted to submit some of my stories to a children's publisher. We never went through with it, though, and you see how prolific I am now. :P I'd still like to write one day, but hardly anyone gets "rich and famous" from that anymore. I'm not interested in fame anyway. Fortune would be nice, but as Charles Swindoll says, it's prosperity that brings real temptation. Not poverty. So I guess I'm better as I am.
6. What songs help you in worshipping God and/or putting you in a state of mind to focus on God?
My RUF CDs get me in a worshipy mood every time. Some of my favorite RUF hymns are "O Love That Will Not Let Me Go," "Jesus I My Cross Have Taken," "Praise to the Lord, the Almighty," "Before The Throne of God Above," "Beneath the Cross of Jesus," and many others. :) Jennifer Knapp is pretty worshipy, too- I've always loved "Trinity."
7. What is the biggest thing on your mind today?
We might hire additional help at work, so I'm kind of concerned about how that will affect me. This is also what prompted my new resolve to focus on work.

Date: 2004-05-27 01:51 pm (UTC)Hey, is it kind of sad that I am best friends with someone I only know on-line (so far)? ;-)
We talk with each other more than anyone else we know on-line /and/ off-line (on-line, of course!) hehe
I know what you mean, though. You need to live in the "real world", too. :-)

Date: 2004-05-27 02:02 pm (UTC)And I know what you mean by the LJ friends thing. I know more about my LJ friends than I do any of my offline friends, I think. Which could be considered pretty sad, but with all the stuff that's been going on lately.. I think I'd rather just stick to you guys, lol. ;) We'll miss ya around here, glad you're not going for good, though!

Date: 2004-05-27 06:54 pm (UTC)That's not what God says so why are you listening to Charles Swindoll? Read what God says about riches, prosperity, money for yourself in the Word.
People who are poor aren't necessarily saints. They steal, have wrong attitude, think it's owed to them, can't provide for themselves or their families, etc. And some of the rich folks do the same things. Poor folks can sinned just as much as a rich person depending on what's in their heart. The Word says it's the love of money that's the root of all evil, not having lots of money. A poor person can love money and do evil things because of loving it.
If you had a lot of money and saw someone in need would you be stingy, judgmental (it's their fault their poor)? Or would you be blessed and probably be able to blessed other people because of having money? The Word says to "go ye into all the world and preached the gospel". It takes money to go ye. Many people only hear of Jesus because of missionaries, or the Word being printed in foreign languages.
It's all what's in your heart. Do you have to be poor to not be tempted? Or are you a mature enough Christian to still put God first ahead of money? And that doesn't mean you have to give all your money to God to prove your heart is right.
There are poor people who do not put God first. And their not having money causes them to want it so much that it's first in their life over God, over their family.
I stepping down off my soapbox now. I love you.

Date: 2004-05-28 07:19 am (UTC)The wise pray:
Keep falsehood and lies far from me;
give me neither poverty nor riches,
but give me only my daily bread.
Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you
and say, 'Who is the LORD ?'
Or I may become poor and steal,
and so dishonor the name of my God.

Date: 2004-05-28 01:07 pm (UTC)Job was super rich, David was super rich (his son Solomon financed most of the cost to build the temple of God. Jesus was not poor. There are many examples in the Word.
I say whoever wrote Proverbs 30:8-9 said a prayer suited to their need. Everyone is not in the same place in their spiritual growth. What matters is what's in your heart.
