from my head to my soul I'm blown away
Aug. 20th, 2004 03:14 pmToday is my last workday for a whole week! It's been years since I stayed anywhere out of town for a week, so I'm excited. Tomorrow we fly into Boston, where Evan's parents will pick us up. Our plans are to: spend a day in Boston and do the Freedom Trail; take a cog railway up Mt. Washington; go to Maine for lobster; possibly visit Cape Cod; and my favorite- take a whale-watching boat tour. Of all the activities, that's what I want to do most. This trip will add a lot of new states and experiences to my list! And I'll be reunited with the ocean, even if it's not my usual part of it. Evan's promised me that. :D I'm kind of stressed about finances, though. With all the wedding stuff, and birthdays and other people's weddings, plus this trip, I feel like I'm tossing money to the wind lately. I'm afraid to find out what my checking account balance is. :( I am so glad we booked this trip and paid for the plane tickets before we got engaged, because if it had happened afterwards, I don't think we'd be going. I don't know where the money for all these activities is going to come from. Oh well...you only go to New England once. I'm sure I'll be back sometime, but let's not talk about that for my own sanity. Also, I'm hoping to hook up with
Jessica and possibly
Lauren (!) for lunch or something. We'll see.
I am convinced that the coffee provided at my work is the worst brand of coffee in the entire world. It's as generic as generic gets. It has no special flavor, and it has a bad habit of making me extremely jittery sometimes, yet not affecting me at all other times. Bleah.
I had my Mary Kay wedding makeup consultation last night. My sister has spent the last five or so years baby-sitting for Stephanie, who's a Mary Kay lady. When she heard I was getting married, she nicely offered to do my makeup for free. So my mom, Debra, and I went over last night for a trial run. She gave me a whole makeover- skincare and makeup. One of the first things we did was put moisturizer all over my face, which is my worst beauty phobia. I have a very oily T-zone, and chronic shininess is my biggest makeup problem. Moisturizer seems like the worst thing I could do. :P My face felt very soft and nice afterwards, so I decided to give it a shot again today. But I've been shining nonstop, despite also applying the No-Shine Mattifier or whatever it's called. Nice.
Anyway, my foundation color is Ivory 100, which is the lightest color they make. This surprised me as I don't think of myself as very pale. Debra needed the next color up, though, and that was definitely too dark for me. I looked fine with the ivory at the time, but at my parents' under the kitchen light, I looked like Edward Scissorhands. I've been agonizing all day about whether to exchange the color. Today I'm wearing just the foundation and not the loose powder, so maybe that's what makes the difference. Any experience to share with foundation colors?
The rest of the makeup was nice, if a little much for my taste. I hate, hate, HATE to look unnatural, so it was hard for me to be okay with dark eyeshadow and obvious blush and stuff. My mom just kept exclaiming how nice it was to see me wearing makeup. (I wear it every day, but apparently it doesn't count unless you notice it. :P) She liked it so much that she bought everything Stephanie used on me! I was surprised, and it was fun to get a bunch of new girly stuff. I'm very blessed. Anyway, I'm just going to ask her to not use quite as much at the wedding. She chose some brown/gold-ish eyeshadows that looked very nice with my hair color. I also got a Shell lipstick that I like a lot, and a lipliner, which I have never used...but I guess I'm going to learn now. Fancy makeup makes me feel weird. I'm low-maintenance at heart (it's not my fault that my hair isn't).

10) Do you secretly hate some of your friends but are too nice to reject them? If someone's really my friend, they can rest assured I don't dislike them. :) I can only think of one girl like this, who's been in my life for about four years (it's no one any of you have ever heard of). She's an extremely unusual case...the kind who lives in complete denial of reality, truth, or responsibility. If I told you any more about her it would take all day, so I'll stop.
