chestnutcurls: (Evan & me)
[personal profile] chestnutcurls
I had fun this weekend. On Friday night I went to a game party at Lance's house. (Lance is part of our weekly lunch group.) I got to meet his girlfriend, who's also my neighbor! She's very nice. It's good to know someone in the neighborhood. On Saturday I went to Goat Days with Ryan and Luke (Myla was busy with her face-painting booth) and had a good old country time. After discovering that the Tigers game wasn't until seven, we decided to go home and then reconvene at the game. I'm so glad I got to go, because it was incredible. We have a winning team. The whole atmosphere of the stadium is different. I've been going to these games for seven years, and I don't think I've ever seen such an excited crowd. We actually left in the fourth quarter, because we were all exhausted and it was obvious we were going to win- and we did, 52-21! Yay!

Yesterday was my and Evan's anniversary. He has a new manager at work who's messing up everyone's schedule, so he had to go to work right after church. I was sad not to spend the day with him, but it was probably good because I got to take a nap. :) In the evening I went to IPC to hear Adolph Coors, the head of Coors Brewery, give his testimony. Yes, he's a Christian! It was very moving - he's had a lot of tragedy in his life. Evan met me there once he was finished with work, and we went to Macaroni Grill! :D It was great. I can't believe it's already been a year...it's flown by, which I guess is good. I am so glad we get to have many more years together. *cartoon hearts*

I don't really have anything else to say today.

Sorry for the irregular sizes and stuff. I just don't feel like messing with the new Gallery system.

The main attraction of Goat Days: goats. They're pretty cute.

Every year, we like to watch the sheepdog trials. One trainer was twelve and had been training sheepdogs since he was seven. This is not him, though.

While we waited for the anvil shoot, some old planes passed overhead.

This is what the anvil looks like before it blasts off. One acts as a sort of launch pad, and the other goes flying up to 350 feet in the air. If the flying anvil lands on the launch anvil, they both explode. This is a mixed blessing because it's cool and you apparently get extra points, but it destroys about $3000 worth of anvil.

The anvil doing its thing. We saw others that went a lot higher than this one.

The biggest draw of Goat Days is the goat chariot races. The chariots are usually driven by small children so as not to overload the goats. Unfortunately, they don't know what to do and the goats often take off in the wrong direction, which is what happened here. This "race" lasted about fifteen minutes. When it was over, we decided we'd had enough and left.

This is the Liberty Bowl, home of the Memphis Tigers. Luke and Myla's younger brother, Aaron, pointed out that it should be called the Pringles Bowl because of its shape.

The crowd totaled over 38,000, which is a seriously packed house in Memphis terms. This was at the beginning of the game- a lot more fans showed up later.

An altercation between the Tiger and the Chik-Fil-A cow. I'm not sure who won.

:D That's awesome! See...proof that U of M graduates can get good jobs. I'd assume, anyway. :)

Fun pictures! Thanks for posting them. :)
I would have never guessed that the head of a brewery was a Christian. I guess that says a lot about my perception of Christianity... I can be so legalistic/judgemental sometimes. I would be interested in hearing his testimony.
Happy anniversary! :)

Hey, you're not alone...I had that same perception until just a few years ago. Even now I was kind of surprised, too.

Thanks! :)

That anvil thing is quite odd to me :)

I heard about Adolph Coors on a Focus on the Family broadcast. He has a most cool story.

Yeah, it's pretty weird. I had never seen it before either. I guess it gets boring way out in the country. :)

That's cool that you've heard his testimony too!
