Guess what? I don't know what happened (though Helen probably had a lot to do with it! :)), but LJ is working again at work! :D Apparently the issue was with the filter my work uses, and was not a decision on the part of my company. So I'm back. Yay! Sorry for being so sad and goodbye-forever yesterday. It doesn't take much to set me off these days.

I'm reading Pretense by Lori Wick, and it seems like the longest book in the entire world. I like it, but it's one of those full chronicles of a family in which many years pass. Do those seem cheesy to anyone else? Janette Oke is one author who's really bad about that. "Winter passed, and summer came, and then they could scarcely believe that it was winter again." That is how life goes, but didn't anything happen in all that time? :P I'm also reading The Picture of Dorian Gray online, mostly because my pastor made a reference to it on Sunday. It's creepy and kind of annoying, but I'm sticking with it. Lord Henry reminds me overwhelmingly of Draco in the Draco Trilogy fanfic. I think maybe two of you will know what I'm talking about, but I had to share.

On my lunch hour I searched the mall for cheap summery clothes to wear on our honeymoon. None of the sale stuff caught my eye, though the new fall full-price stuff certainly did. I-N-C needs to stop making such cute clothes. It's like torture. I will never be rich enough to afford even one complete outfit of theirs. I still sometimes think about the $50 shirts I passed up last winter. Anyway, it was a lot of walking and I'm tired now. Naptime, anyone?

I can't handle Lori Wick and Janette Oke books at all - they seem very formulated to me. :-(

Wow, that was a very depressing comment. Is the weather as beautiful there as it is here? :-)

Oh, they ARE very formulated. Maybe my mistake is reading too many at a time. I'm also reading Francine Rivers and she's the best of the three, but also pretty predictable.

Which Draco triology fanfic? By Cassandra Claire, perchance? ;)

The Picture of Dorian Grey *is* depressing. . . and I recently saw someone's painting of their interpretation of that picture. It was creepy!

:D Yeah! Wow, I never would have guessed you for an HP fanfic fan. :) That series is great writing. It's almost as good as the books. In some ways, better.

Yeah, I've read some of that one but never finished it. I should go back and print out the rest. :) Nice to find a fanfic buddy among my existing friends!

My do we have good taste! My shower outfit for the Cupboard shower you went to was all INC. My mom picked it out and made me buy it! lol I love their stuff- I go about once a year and buy like 3 or 4 things which can make up my entire wardrobe when mixed with khakis and jeans.

Then I go to Old Navy and fill it in.

I love Pretense.... but Lori Wick (and Janette Oak) also get on my nerves because of the very thing you mentioned. I'm like, "blah, blah, blah". :) But they are still two of my most favorite authors. Karen Kingsbury is good - have you read her? I like Tracie Peterson's stuff typically. Linda Chaiken is cool, but all her books seem the same after awhile.

Just my two cents.

By the way, glad you are back to stay - your post yesterday was bumming the heck out of me!

Thanks Laura! I feel so loved.

Blah blah blah is right. If I ever manage to write a book, I'll keep it within a few years' time at most. :P

I looked into Dorian Gray after I saw the movie "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen", in which Johnny Depp played Dorian. It sounds kind of cool, so I might read that once I get done with the Hitchhiker series. Keep me informed on whether it's any good or not...

that dude was hot, but he was no Johnny Depp (insert homer simpson-like drool here), it was Stuart Townsend I think.

I wonder if they're gonna make a sequel to that - the ending just screamed sequel, but I don't think it did very well at box office.

Dorian Gray is good and powerful but oh so depressing. It's a good read though. Freaked me out badly when I first read it in 6th grade- NOT a good reading choice for prepubscent girls struggling with self-esteem issues -lol-

I'm glad you're not gone!

Winter passed, and summer came, and then they could scarcely believe that it was winter again.

You crack me up! That does sound like Janette Oke though. I did really like some of her books. They Called Her Mrs. Doc and A Woman Named Damaris come to mind. But many of them were pretty predictable.

I've heard of The Picture of Dorian Gray, but I've never read it. It sounds intriguing. Especially if that character is like Draco. :)

Oh yeah, I like Janette Oke! I'm just saying. :) I think most authors are formulaic if you read enough of their books. My favorites of hers are the Love Comes Softly series, and The Bluebird and the Sparrow. I really related to that one for a long time.

Pretense is one of my favorite books! It is very long, but I think that's what I like about it...I get to know the history of the characters in a quality way and by the end of the book I feel like they are my friends. Cheesy, I know. :) I also think Lori Wick was sort of semi-realistic (like the affair with the married man, etc), more so than most Christian fiction.

The Picture of Dorian Gray is a good book, but I found it kind of homoerotic! :/

ME TOO!! I wasn't going to say anything, but oh my gosh. The first couple of chapters had me going, "Um, is this going to turn into slash?" :P I guess that's not surprising, given Oscar Wilde's tendencies and all.

I haven't read Lori Wick but I know what you mean about authors like Janette Oke. SO predictable. But sometimes it's nice to de-stress with fluffy fiction like that. There's another author...oh! Beverly Lewis. And I have a strange liking for her fictional Amish books. They're my fluff of choice.

And I'm glad you're not gone from LJ! That'd be tragic!
