At this point in wedding planning, it comes down to the annoying little things you keep forgetting about...like renting a column to uphold a flower arrangement, getting travelers checks, finding someone to handle the cleanup in the sanctuary. Then there are the annoying big things, like your fiance not packing up his home even though he'll be vacating it in seventeen days, and getting your marriage license, which we still can't do because we have to get our proof-of-counseling form notarized. The government makes it as hard as possible to get proof of counseling, because it means sixty less dollars for them. Every day my moments of panic get more frequent as I realize another thing I haven't done, and cannot get done when I'm at work all day. I have a floating holiday and I normally save it for Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve, but I'm thinking about taking it on Friday. There's too much to do, and it's really hard to concentrate on work when I have all this hanging over my head. I've already screwed something up today. It didn't affect anyone but me, but making mistakes after three years is not the way to impress your boss.

I'm re-reading L.M. Montgomery's Anne books, in order, which I don't think I've ever done. This means having to read Anne of Windy Poplars, which is almost universally acknowledged as the least entertaining book LMM ever wrote. I started it today, and it's pretty tolerable since it's been at least five years since I read it. If you're an Anne fan, which is your favorite and least favorite of the series? I can never decide what my favorite is. Evan makes fun of them. He took one from me the other day, opened it at random, and mocked, "She said 'prosy'!" Oh well. I think Tom Clancy is boring, and Evan's read his entire body of work. We can't agree on everything. :)

It's become hard to get through the day without indulging in a Diet Coke, which is kind of scary.

Hey, you can vote online for the People's Choice Awards. There are lots of good nominees. Do it. Do it now.

Are you a member of a credit union or bank? At our credit union, they do free notary public stuff for members so that's where we bring things when they need to be taken care of.

Our wedding was very small, but boy oh boy can I relate to all the little things catching up with you at the end!

Someone told me you could get it done at the bank. It's really just a matter of getting together with our minister during the day. Everyone is too busy.

Oh, why does everyone say Anne of Windy Poplars is dull? I must just be weird; I love it! I just finished reading it again last week, in fact, and I enjoyed it as much or more than in the past. Actually, I can think of a less interesting LMM book (Kilmeny of the Orchard--somehow it just lacks spark), and I'm rereading Anne's House of Dreams right now, and so far it seems a little fake to me. I know LMM got tired of writing the series after the second book, so I don't hold it against her. ;-)

My favorite is the first book, of course, but after that... hmm. Maybe Anne of the Island. I never really count Rainbow Valley and Rilla of Ingleside as being Anne books, but they are really good.

You know, it's kind of sad how much I know about LMM's books and how much I can ramble on about them.

Yeah, Kilmeny was okay, but not very thrilling. Did you know Windy Poplars was actually written after all the other books? The fans wanted another Anne book, so she wrote that one to fill the gap in the timeline, or something. But Rebecca Dew is mentioned in the later books, so I'm always confused.

Anne of the Island and Rilla definitely rank in my top three. I know House of Dreams is a little unrealistic, but I love that one too. :)

Oh, I'd love to listen any time you want to ramble about LMM. I love her and not many people on LJ want to talk about her. Actually, my first Internet hobby was being on an LMM listserv. That's how I met [livejournal.com profile] kiwiria. :)

Don't worry, I don't think Anne of Windy Poplars is dull so you're not alone.;-) I may be easily entertained, though, because I think I've been entertained by nearly every LMM book I've read. Although some of the collections of short stories aren't that great. (But it's interesting to see how she seemed to establish ideas/characters in her short stories and then replicate them in her books.) OH, and I also agree about Kilmeny of the Orchard. Kilmeny just wasn't a very endearing heroine to me, for some reason.

Anyway, as far as favorites...the first two are probably still my all time favorites. But now I'm thinking I need to read the entire series again. The library here better have them or I'm going to go into mourning. For other LMM books I think I love The Story Girl and The Golden Road almost as much as the Anne books....not that you asked.;-)

On a somewhat unrelated note: I just did a search for a listing of the Anne series so I could remember all the books...and they have Anne of Green Gables: Young Readers Edition, "adapted for children 9-12"...does that annoy anyone else!? How many people were older than that when they read the real [unadapted] Anne? Children these days...:-|

Anyway, as far as favorites...the first two are probably still my favorite

Yeah...Anne doesn't need to be adapted! Sheesh.

Do you have the Annotated Anne? You know, the one with footnotes? I've always wanted that one. I pointed it out to Evan in the Oxford University Press catalog, so maybe I'll get it for Christmas or something. :)

In that case I'm weird too, because I also love it.

As [livejournal.com profile] monalisa816 wrote, we met each other on an LMM listserv, so count me in for wanting to ramble about LMM ;)

Everytime I hear about people's wedding planning it makes me so anxious..haha. It all seems like so much, is there a checklist or something? How do you do it!!

And don't worry too much, everything always seems to come together at the end it seems!

WeddingChannel.com has been my guide through this whole thing. They have a checklist that prompts you to do pretty much everything at the appropriate time, though it (annoyingly) works on a year's timetable, so I've had to alter it. I also look at checklists on The Knot in case WC misses something. I also have my mom and the wedding coordinator at the church to remind me of things.

VOTE ZACH BRAFF!

Ahem, okay, got that off my chest. ;)

You know, Sheila Bates/White is a notary public and will notarize your thing for free. Just get Evan to get up there and sign it in front of her. She's in C building with the rest of the HR dept.

Also, when you go to get your license, go between 10 and 12 and 1:30 and 3. Those are the least busy times. When Alan and I went at 2:15 (of course, this was several years ago), we were out in 10 minutes. Remember, though, that Evan has to go then too. The nearest County Clerks office to you is the one on Poplar right after Highland in the shopping center with Applebees and all that- it's visible from the road that runs past Taco Bell.

Yes - my sentiments exactly! Go Zach!

Stacy and I are working on some notary co-workers. :)

I thought we could go to that one too, but Robin says the only places that do marriage licenses are the place downtown and the place at Shelby Farms. So I'll have to take a looong lunch one day once we get this worked out.

Oh yeah, I guess they must have stopped it at the other locations. Here's the website:
http://www.shelbycountytn.gov/FirstPortal/dotShowDoc/Government/ElectedOfficials/clerk_index.htm#marriage

WEIRD. That's so stupid of them! It's like they don't want people to get married. At least Shelby Farms isn't too far if you go Perkins to Walnut Grove.

I have only read the first three Anne books so far, and now you've got me worried because Anne of Windy Poplars is next on the list. They've just gotten better as I read each one, so I like Anne of the Island the best. :)

So L.M. Montgomery wanted to stop writing them after Anne of Avonlea?! But Anne and Gilbert hadn't even gotten together yet!

I don't think AoWP is dull at all! Actually it's one of my favourite Anne books :)

If I had to order them, I think it would be:
Anne of the Island
Anne of Green Gables
Anne of Avonlea
Anne of Windy Willows (hey, I have the British set, that's what it's called there! ;) )
Anne's House of Dreams
Rilla of Ingleside
Anne of Ingleside
Rainbow Valley

Well, it looks like a lot more people like Windy Poplars/Windy Willows than I thought, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. :)

Yeah, I know! It's speculated that, not having had much romance in her own life, she didn't want to write about romance. This will become obvious when you read Windy Poplars. I always feel bad for her- she had a sad life.
