Six Things

I was tagged by lajeaLaura. :)

List 6 things about yourself which are either weird, habitual, unusual, or just plain fun to hear about. Then tag six to ten others in the El Jay world, who then, in the spirit of not wussing out, must read words like these and follow the same rules you did.

1. I can fall asleep at the drop of a hat. Evan was very startled by this when we were first married and I fell asleep in the middle of a conversation. I can also sleep easily in non-ideal conditions (i.e. buses and airports).

2. If I had it to do over, I might have played the oboe instead of the flute. There are so few oboe players that anything they play is considered good, whereas you have to be a prodigy to get anywhere with a flute. Plus, it seems like a fun instrument and it sounds neat.

3. I was at the Sears store in the Hollywood Mall on the day that Adam Walsh (son of America's Most Wanted's John Walsh) was abducted. I was two years old. My mom apparently left me for a second in the same toy department, about an hour before he was reported missing. She only told me about it recently - I don't remember it at all. Scary.

4. My senior honors thesis in college was about interdenominational dialogue. About halfway through writing it, I realized that my premise (that different Christian denominations could get along if they talked about their differences in a peaceful and respectful way) would probably never work on a large scale in reality. Which made it pretty difficult to finish the paper. :P I think my thesis advisor noticed my change of heart, but he was a holistic type of teacher who thought the journey was more important than the end product, so he gave me an A anyway. I really liked him.

5. I still like Exclamation perfume. :) My other favorite in middle school was Love's Soft Jasmine, but I don't think they make that anymore. I had a vast collection of Love's fragrances.

6. When we were in Miami right before my eighteenth birthday, my parents took me to the Keys to swim with dolphins at Theater of the Sea. It was a dream come true. I have a special photo album for the pictures of me with the dolphins.

I tag anyone who wants to do it!

That is an awesome thesis! However, I think you're right that it couldn't work on a large scale- because so many people are just determined to be stubborn- but on a small scale I know it works. My favorite types of religious retreats are, and always have been, interdenominational ones.

I actually thought of you while I was writing that part. You're the strongest proof I know that it CAN work on an individual basis. :)

Sorry, I won't let you claim that a bus is a non-ideal place for sleeping. I've done it too many times (intentionally or unintentionally). Any moving vehicle makes an excellent place for sleep!

Then again, I think I'm one of those people like you describe...drives my sister nuts when I'll be watching TV and fall asleep, but wake up the instant anybody tries to take advantage of that fact...

Anyway, I really must get out the door to choir!

Very true, but I was thinking more about seating conditions...not being able to lean on the person next to you, etc. :)

Ah...a good reason to always choose a window seat...get a view and a leaning spot for sleep.

Personally, the leaning doesn't seem to be necessary. I tend to be the master of the lean head forward until all of a sudden snapping it upright when my balance is off...

With this history, no wonder I'm a bit afraid of a driver's license! I worry I'd be one of those falling asleep (or close to it) behind the wheel. (Definitely one of the [many] ways I don't want to take after my father!)

Yes. It comes in a black and white bottle. I thought they stopped making it, but I saw it in Walgreens the other day. :)

No kidding. I found out a few months ago when my mom and I were watching a show about John Walsh, and she casually goes, "You know, I was there with you that same day," and I was like "WHAT!?" I think she was so horrified by what could have happened that she tried to forget about it. :|

Wow, your #3 is so scary!

Isn't it amazing how much things have changed between then and now? The Adam Walsh incident really opened the eyes of the public as to the reality of predators being out there - anywhere.

2) Me too!!! And the oboe as well. Although I'd love to learn the sax and the clarinet too, but knowing how to play the oboe would be really handy. In all orchestras I've been part of (ok, both), there has only ever been one oboe player, but 6-7 clarinet or flute players.

:) Yeah. I would definitely stick with a woodwind if I ever switched. Brass just isn't me.

I can also fall asleep anywhere. It seems the more odd or uncomfortable, the faster I fall asleep. The bed? Takes longer.

These were 6 really interesting things!
