It's Friday!

Kathy left this morning for World Youth Day in Toronto. She'll be gone for 10 days, visiting Baltimore, Washington, New York, Niagara Falls, and several places in between before arriving in Toronto. I wish I could have gone, because those are all places I want to see. But I remain here, to water her parents' plants and enjoy their pool and satellite TV. :) I don't know who I'm going to talk to while she's gone. It has potential to be a very boring 10 days. :P

Have any of you heard of Rachael Lampa? I decided to give her Live for You CD a chance and copied it from my sister. Well, this girl is amazing. She's got a set of lungs that would shut Christina Aguilera up fast. :) Jessica, I think you would really like her.

Also, my Michelle Branch CD from Greg arrived yesterday. Thanks! :) I haven't gotten all the way through it yet, but I like it. It's interesting how different some of the songs are from Spirit Room, especially "If Only She Knew." It's at, like, half-time. That drove me nuts. :) Sample of Brenda's stream of consciousness: I expected the "Washing Machine" song to be about how this guy's love was like a washing machine. Which reminded me of the Phoebe song from the pilot episode of Friends: "Your loooove is like a giiiant piiigeon....crapping on my heart."

Now that I've frightened everyone,

1. When was the last date you went on (if you've been on any)? Where did you go?
The last date I remember was Valentine's Day 1999, when Jeremy and I were still dating. He cooked me dinner and then took me to Seize the Clay to do ceramics. It was the best date I ever had. :) A couple of months ago, I had a happy fun night out with someone that felt very like a date (I think to both of us), but I knew it wasn't, so I just enjoyed it. Things have gone downhill since then, so I'm glad I have that night to remember.
2. Do you have a crush on anyone right now?
Yes.
3. What's your favorite thing about Thursdays?
It's almost the weekend. I get to look forward to Saviori all day. And that night, when I come home from Saviori, I have a Friends tape waiting for me.
4. What is your favorite day of the week to go out for a meal on?
Sunday lunch after church, and dinner out Friday and/or Saturday night. Lately I have also enjoyed going to lunch on Wednesdays. :)
5. What is one (or 10) of the best surprises you've ever had?
Every Valentine's Day, my sister comes to my home and leaves flowers and candy and a stuffed animal for me. And every year, I forget that she does it, so I'm surprised all over again. :)

Also, a couple of months ago, Evan came over and brought me a pack of Peeps. It was a small, silly thing, but it showed that he was thinking of me, so it made me happy.

And Kathy is always leaving me little surprises, especially when one of us is going on a trip. This morning, she left me a nice note and her Blockbuster card. :)

6. What kinds of things have you done spontaneously?
I go out to eat spontaneously all the time. :)
7. Would you like to be more spontaneous or more calculated than you currently are, or are you happy with that area of your life?
I'd like to be more spontaneous. I'm getting better at it with little things, but for bigger things, I still have to have everything planned.
8. What is your favorite online game?
Um... I like crossword puzzles.
9. I lost my phone number...can I have yours?
My phone number is 16. We got one of the early ones.
10. What's your favorite aspects of where you live?
my friends, family, and bunny; my church; Tiger sports; Memphis Pizza Cafe; clean water; Shelby Farms and Peabody Place; cool local bands; the relative nearness to two major Reformed seminaries, causing a high percentage of available guys :)
11. What's your least favorite aspects of where you live?
the asphyxiating heat in summer; rednecks; the general boringness and rejection by the rest of the country; the Elvis insanity; Loose Slot Louie
12. When are you going to make a survey of your own?
I've been forming two surveys in my head, one about food and one "How Ghetto are You?" test. I probably won't do the latter one, since none of you seem ghetto, and I'd know all the answers so it wouldn't be fair. :)
13. What is the last thing you snail mailed?
My utility bill. Which was a whopping $109.25, if anyone is interested.
14. Does it bother you when someone asks what you are thinking?
Not usually. But it's been years since anyone asked, so I don't know.
15. What is a good number of questions to have in a survey like this?
10 or 15 or 20. For some reason it's important that it be a round number. :)

Is you Ghetto?

Here are my results... (censored)

I am 0-20% Ghetto

I don't even know what ghetto is? Freaking Preppy. I better hop in my beamer - head for the hood and get some chicken, watermelon, and neports.

Yeah, I've seen that one. I don't mean that kind of quiz, with the bullets and the calculating (like I have the ability to make something like that!). I mean real questions. Like, "Define the following terms: 'wody', 'crunk', 'shorty', etc." "Name the artist and title of the following song lyrics." "Which of the following rappers are still alive?" Stuff like that. It's funny to me, but you guys would probably just think I was stupid. :)

Well, I don't think I'd be able to answer ANY of the questions without cheating... :P

Shorty
1) (n) Little person.
2) (n) Female, like baby or honey. "I got myself a shorty, I got myself a forty" -- Wu-Tang Clan (Method Man).
3) (n) A seven ounce bottle of beer.

Good job. Although that site gave me a headache just looking at it.

Hey! I haven't read your entire entry yet but I'm responding to the Lampa thing. My friend bought her CD accidentally...he thought she was the person he remembered, but it was another artist. Anyway, he ended up really liking the CD and he bought me one for my birthday. I love it! Mostly because I like to sing with it, though I'm sure I ruin all of her songs. :) I used to listen to that CD over and over for like 3 months.

Favorite songs: (I don't know exact titles) #3 Always Be My Home, #5 Blessed (which I didn't use to like!), #6 You Lift Me Up, #9 Hide Me, #11 My Father's Heart

I've always wanted to do "My Father's Heart" for church...maybe sometime. But the piano music in #3 is awesome...I'd love to hear someone play that.

Further comfirming my long-seated disgust with that show....

I have both of Rachael Lampa's CDs (live for you and her new one Kaleidoscope). They are both excellently done. If I remember correctly, I think her producer is Brown Bannister on those, and he is the same guy that discovered and produced Amy Grant way back when. Lampa has a great voice with amazing range.
You're welcome for the CD, hope you enjoy it. :) I agree, the Broken Bracelet songs tend to be slower and folksy more than rock (like the Spirit Room is)...but I sort of like Broken Bracelet in some ways more than Spirit Room (maybe cause they are grittier versions of her songs without the studio backup...sort of just her doing her thing). It would be great to see her in concert someday.

I'm not a HUGE Rachael Lampa fan, but I do like to listen to "You Lift Me Up" on the morning drive to work with the windows rolled down and the stereo cranked up. :)

I found some of the stuff from Broken Bracelet online a while ago . . . it's ok, but I really prefer the Spirit Room version of Everywhere :D. (I LOVE that song.)

I just found out that Michelle Branch is doing a concert in my area in September . . . but she's actually just a "guest" in Sheryl Crow's concert. Of whom I am not crazy. My friend and I are going to just buy tickets to see Michelle. ;)
