For no apparent reason, waterskiing is on my mind today. Whenever we go out on a boat, I waterski. I won't do the kneeboard because I'm afraid it will pop up and hit me in the mouth (hey, it happened to my dad), and I don't do the inner tube because I don't like sports where the objective is to throw the person off. :) But I know how to ski. So I ski. The weird thing is, I'm not sure I really like it. I like the flying feeling, but if the water isn't completely calm, I have to concentrate so hard just to stay upright that I can't enjoy it much. It's almost too much stress. Also, I apparently ski with my knees together and my legs out, a bird-like pose inherited from my mother. I thought I had stopped it last time we went skiing, but it turned out Evan was just tactfully not mentioning it. :) So. Anybody else have any strong feelings about water sports? :)

Em should arrive in town very soon. She had to stop for the night in Jackson, having spent two hours just crossing the lake. But soon she will be here, and can rest in safety. :) On a related note, Daniel called from England last night! It was great to hear from him. He's working at the BBC, and yesterday he even got on the air! Wow. :)

The tails of the hurricane are coming closer to us. It's going to be an interesting couple of days!

The weather guy on KLOVE this morning said that the tropical storm looked like it was headed for Memphis. HA! Did someone forget to tell them that TENNESSEE isn't a tropical state? Unless this thing feeds off of the Mississippi river, I don't think we have much to worry about...

According to this we're actually in the path of the storm. I expect monsoon like rains. :)

I've never been skiing, water or snow. I did try knee boarding once, but the board DID pop out from under me and hit my head! I wasn't really hurt, but it seemed like a lot of work and focus just for a few minutes dragged behind a boat. You have to pull yourself up, balance, strap yourself in, and then hold on for dear life. That's how I feel about skiing too. Plus not only that, but it's a big ordeal to go out on the boat and do that. Usually someone has a boat and they can only have like 4 people at a time, so it's a matter of claiming a certain time, getting out to wherever the boat is, etc. I hate that kind of unrelaxed schedule when I'm camping at the lake. It seems like such a hassle. I enjoy riding on boats, though, if someone has the space and says, "Hey want to come?" and I'm not busy at the very second.

Water is good for swimming. :) And I'm good at swimming, so that's what I do!

Water sports, for me, are purely spectator.

I went inner-tubing one time, but by the time I was done, my arms were SO SORE, I couldn't get back in the boat! The boat was not equipped with a ladder, so it was just a matter of upper-body strength to get myself in, and I had absolutely NONE! Oy, it was the worst experience! And so embarrassing! It was the same kind of deal as when I went jet-skiing a couple of months ago with the folks at work.

Hey, it's really hard to get back in the boat! Don't be embarrassed! I can never make it by myself. The guys always have to haul me in. :)

I've only been water skiing once! On a lake in WI. I haven't been around water a lot...I've never seen the ocean so I can't WAIT to see that!:P And even though MN is the land of 10,000 lakes I've hardly been to any of THEM either!:( Crazy! But I LOVED water skiing! It was one of the most fun things I ever did! I won't claim I was GOOD at it (it took me 3 tries to get up so once I got up I would NOT go down!;D) but it WAS fun!

I like jetskis. I rode on one a few years ago and it rocked! I'd definately do it again.
