It's amazing how different the world looks when you're seeing clear skies for the first time in two weeks. It feels strange to not only see the top of the Clark Tower (the "skyscraper" of Memphis, which is very close to my work), but to also see so much blueness over it. I took my lunch to the park, and sat there soaking up God's creation. I could have stayed there all day.

Tonight I am getting a haircut! Kathy called to make an appointment for both of us, but they only had one opening, so she let me have it. Isn't that nice? :) But I'm just getting a trim; I'm going to grow my hair out a little. This is not because I like my hair long. It is because no matter how it's cut, it looks exactly the same. Cutting it shorter again will not make a splash with anyone, so all I can do is let it grow. Lately I feel very blah, appearance-wise. My hair is boring, my clothes are boring, my accessories are boring. I like to look "classic" and "simple." Unfortunately, I noticed the other night that apparently this style is no match for the fun hair/fake fur/juniors' department look of some of my contemporaries. And if I were to emulate this look, I am pretty sure people would think it looked stupid on me. Including me. :P I tried to get input on this issue from [livejournal.com profile] aardwolf and [livejournal.com profile] yakko7178 yesterday, but they just panicked in a very masculine way and accused me of trying to "trap" them. :)

Wow, I didn't mean to talk about any of that. Here is something I've been thinking about:

I know what you mean about feeling blah and not getting any input. It's impossible from guys. You must turn to your girlfriends, but in this you should be careful too. I had a friend convince me to dye my hair red, which was fun for awhile, but it was very expensive to go back to my natural brown.

If you ever want to visit NYC let me know - we could totally meet up. NYC is only a two or two and a half hour drive from here. And I haven't done half the tourist stuff there yet. :) I'm always looking for excuses to go down. :)

I would love to come up there! I'm frustrated because it will be years before I have enough vacation time to go anywhere. But someday. I will definitely let you know. :)

You should so come here! Graceland isn't that great, but I could show you the really fun things like the "new" bridge, and the Pyramid, and Huey's, and Memphis Pizza Cafe... :)

just U.S.? ok...

Consider yourself honoured: I've hardly communicated w/anyone online in months (because I haven't had a connection), but I picked you! :D ;)

I believe we've had this discussion before, and it seems like it was in your LJ, but perhaps not. Anyway, if you come to Seattle, I'd love to get together with you. Knowing you even just as much as I do through your journal, I have a feeling you'd LOVE it. I, however, am not allowed to because I'm from the rival city half an hour/an hour to the south. Tacoma is just superior, that's all. But Seattle is nice and touristy and fun if one isn't bound by loyalties elsewhere to despise it. ;)

The Puget Sound is, I believe, theeee greatest region on the planet to reside in, even though the cost of living is ridiculously skyscraperish. You have to go up to Mt. Rainier or out to the rainforest on the peninsula. Places like that are way more interesting than driving by landmark buildings, etc. Whoopdeedoo. :P 0:)

My tendencies aren't toward super touristy places, so although I'd enjoy visiting certain places (Boston, New York, DC, you know, the places every good American has to see just to have seen them) I'd never go unless I knew someone there to hang out with in a "real life" sort of way. Sorta how you are about Memphis, I guess. You mentioned Graceland's lack of appeal, for example. Even though I spent long summer days adoring Elvis in my youth, I think I can understand the "Ehhhh..." quality of the site. We have friends in DC, for example, who I've been dying to visit for years. But again, the best places are always the burger joints, city parks where you've spent probably months of your life with friends and family.

And now that I've blabbed on an on....

I do LIIIIIIIVE for our summerly sojourn to Kalispell, MT, and I would lovvve to visit some friends of mine in Edmonton, Alberta. Oh, and several good friends are in the Houston area. But other than that, you shall find me, quite hap'ly,

Your friend between the grey skies and green, green grass of home,

Ashley B-)
