chestnutcurls: (Christmas Bun)
[personal profile] chestnutcurls
This has been a great day. I watched Christmas in Rockefeller Center last night, and I am finally in the holiday spirit. :) We put up our little tree at work this morning. At lunchtime, I went to the mall and finished buying stuff for charity. (Every year at work, they provide us with money and a wish list and we shop for the children who live at Youth Villages.) I managed to find everything on my girl's list, which made me very happy. When I got back, I found a poinsettia in my cube from my boss. She thought our office needed a little color. :) Then Kathy called and we decided to go to a Christmas dinner tonight at Daniel's college, because it is free and anyone can go. And, Friends is new tonight! Oh, the excitement one day can hold. :)

I also bought all of my special cards at the mall. Some Christmas cards puzzle me. For instance, "To a Special Mail Carrier." How does one go about sending this card? Do you mail it to them, thus causing them to labor for their own card, or do you wait by the door and give it to them when they come by? Thinking about this was a good distraction for me at the store, since I was near tears with every "Best Friend" card I read. This is why I don't send Kathy and Em mushy friendship cards throughout the year- it would cause too much public weeping. :)

Guess what! I have made a Christmas quiz! [livejournal.com profile] jessecho will be so proud of me! :)

What are your two favorite Christmas songs? (Pick one Christ-related and one Santa/other-related.)
O Holy Night, and All I Want for Christmas Is You.

What is your favorite holiday TV special?
A Charlie Brown Christmas. But Rudolph is a close second. One year in high school, my best friend and I watched that while talking on the phone, and matched up the characters with people who were in band with us. I could never see those people the same way again. :)

Do you have a favorite Christmas album?
Mariah Carey's Merry Christmas. I need to buy it, because my mom kept the tape when I moved out.

Does your family open presents on Christmas Eve, or Christmas Day?
When I was little, we opened on Christmas Eve because that was what my dad did as a child. As we got older, we felt that it spoiled the anticipation of the day, so we started doing it on Christmas morning.

Do you have any funny mistletoe stories?
Kathy and Emily and I purposefully hung several mistletoes in the apartment our senior year, hoping to end up under one with our respective objects of affection. When it happened to me, I was too nervous to point it out. Others noticed, though. :)

Do you like eggnog?
Not really. I drink a little every year, though, because my dad says it is Tradition. :)

What are your favorite things about Christmas?
Singing Christmas hymns, spending time with my family and my friends, getting a chance to tell them that I love them. :)

We used to just leave cookies in the mailbox for our mail carrier. With a note attached of course. They know it's for them :) I just did most of my card chopping yesterday as well. I always try to find ones that are funny and somehow relate to the person I'm giving it to. That can sometimes take awhile.

Card chopping? Is that like "chopping broccoliiii..."?

Sorry, I couldn't leave it alone. :)

You just couldn't let that one slip, huh? :) I do the same thing so I can't complain ;)

Wait I can recover from this. I really did mean card chopping, I make my own cards and I have a giant paper cutter to chop the card-stock. Yeah that's it, so there.

I taped Christmas in Rockefeller Center, cuz I mainly just wanted to see Michelle Branch, Vanessa Lengies and Brittany Snow of American Dreams and Kelly Clarkson. I thought that guy who sang O Holy Night did a real good job as well, cuz I really like that song. :)
