chestnutcurls: (I feel pretty)

I'm home!

My trip was wonderful. I love Las Vegas, which was a surprise. I expected it to be sleazy and kind of scary and dirty. I certainly didn't expect to see such beauty everywhere. I know it's all funded by dirty money, but the creativity and over-the-top-ness of everything just amazed me. And the weather and the scenery were beautiful. In that regard, it almost pained me to come back to flat, cold, overcast Memphis. :P

Here's my Vegas photo album. There were way too many pictures to post, plus I wanted non-journal people to see them.

There's so much to tell about the trip, but here are some of the high points.

- Cirque de Soleil was absolutely amazing. The show is called O. It's a water show. We had sixth row seats. There's so much going on during the show that you can hardly keep up with it all; people are diving and flipping and dancing all over the place. The water tank has platform-like things that rise and sink as needed, so that sometimes the whole tank seemed to disappear under the platform. At one point some guys dove from the rafters, and all I could think was, What if they forgot to lower the platform all the way? But nobody died, and I was very glad. :)

- My meetings were generally painless, even informative! I learned some valuable things! Then, on one of the afternoons, they had a comedian come in. His name is Chris Bliss, in case some of you have heard of him. He's apparently famous in the juggling world; he once juggled as an opening act for Michael Jackson. :)

- We went to the hotel brand conference Wednesday morning. The speaker there was Jamie Clarke. He climbed Mt. Everest in 1997. He was probably the best speaker I have ever heard. His story was amazing. Men were crying. I heard that he wrote a book about his experiences; I definitely want to read it.

- We couldn't go to Hoover Dam because it's closed this time of year. I was kind of glad, since we wouldn't have had time to go anyway, and that way I didn't feel bad about it. :)

- I played two slot machines. I lost both times. I did not feel the need to play any more. :)

I'll post more later as I think of it. Now I will try to catch up on my friends page.

so glad you had fun! I have only been there once, during a camping trip. we stayed the night in a huge hotel ... and we hated it thoroughly. We spent the evening trying to find somewhere to eat and consequently had to walk through like 50 kazillion casinos... we didn't get to go to any shows or even walk around much. =P I'm sure I'd like it better if I got to spend more time there, though.

Hey, welcome back. I've beent to both Las Vegas and Hoover Dam. All I could think about (blame it on my engineering background) when I was visiting Las Vegas was ... wow! ... the city's electric bill must be astronomical! Interestingly, Las Vegas is not that big a power draw from Hoover Dam (from the Hoover Dam tour). Makes you wonder about how much electricity the average person uses in the US.

Did you see elvis impersonators. I rented 3000 miles to graceland last night, and am going to watch it tonight. I think that whole phenomenon is so goofy. He was a singer, for crying out loud. He died. Get over it.

Welcome back! *hugs* :) I sounds (and looks, judging by the pictures) like you had a good time! :) I'm glad you didn't keep trying to play the slot machines though, cuz that's how people become addicted to gambling.

Did you get to watch the Super Bowl, by any chance?

Glad you're back! Enjoyed the Pictures :-D

LJs were so quiet while you were gone... ok, so maybe I just have a patheticly small group of friends on LJ and I need to get my "Brenda" fix... :-D Welcome back girl!

Thanks for sharing the pictures!! It makes me want to go back... {{sigh}} It's changed so much since I went there last... (The MGM Grand was being built the last time I was there!). I'd love to see the Paris LV place and the one with the huge aquariums. My Mom and Grandmother are going there later this month. Your pictures make me wish I could go too! :) Maybe someday I'll go back.

That was neat! There were so many cool pretty things in those pictures (and one scary half-man, half-ice cream cone!) I knew those vegas people were rich, but rich enough to move the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty???

Hmmm... both made by the French. I wonder if there's a theme here... :P
