Jan. 7th, 2005 09:47 amAnd now, for anyone curious, I present my mix CD tracklist.
1. With You - Jessica Simpson
I can let my hair down, I can say anything crazy, I know you'll catch me right before I hit the ground.
Yes. It’s cheesy and mushy, but so am I.
2. Time - Chantal Kreviazuk
Now, this is my time, and I’m going to make this moment mine.
If my life were a chick flick, this song would be at the end of the trailer. You know, at the dramatic part when I’m spinning in the snow or coming down the stairs in an evening gown or something.
3. When the Stars Go Blue - The Corrs featuring Bono
Dancing out on Seventh Street, dancing in the Underground.
Evan really likes this song and he got me hooked on it. And, hey, Bono.
4. This Side - Nickel Creek
You dream of colors that have never been made, you imagine songs that have never been played.
Nickel Creek was my greatest musical discovery of 2004. I don’t know what took me so long. I think this is my favorite song of theirs, partly because the progression in the lyrics is so much like the progression of my relationship with Evan. Also, it’s happy and I like happy music.
5. Curbside Prophet - Jason Mraz
And I have no regrets that I bet my whole checking account.
I bought the Jason Mraz CD in 2003, but it wasn't right for my mood at the time. I didn’t really get into it until this year. This is my favorite track.
6. American Girls - Counting Crows
American girls are weather and noise, playing the changes for all of the boys.
I listened to this a lot in my car this summer. I thought it was appropriate, because it only becomes clearer to me all the time how inherently American I am. It’s a blessing and a curse.
7. By and By - Jennifer Knapp
I'll be looking overhead to the sky, see the clouds open wide, reveal my faith.
This was the year that I regained my appreciation for Jennifer Knapp. I kept coming back to this song from The Way I Am. It sort of makes me think of my friends who had a hard year this year.
8. Question - Old 97s
She woke from her dream, her head was on fire - why was he so nervous?
This song was on Jenn's 2003 soundtrack (I think I also heard it on a Scrubs episode). In the early part of the year, I used to listen to it and smile goofily, wondering when I would get my own question.
9. Pieces of Me - Ashlee Simpson
Oh, it seems like I can finally rest my head on something real, I like the way that feels.
I have zero respect for Ashlee, but I like this song in spite of myself. In some ways it’s a description of my whole year.
10. Everything - Fe Fe Dobson
Are you waiting for a special occasion to give me your heart?
Again, this song isn’t great quality, but it’s extremely catchy. I wish it had been around two years ago.
11. Thankful - Kelly Clarkson
You know my heart, how to make me stop and how to make me go.
I got Kelly's first CD for my birthday and was immediately sorry that I hadn't gotten it when it first came out. I just love her.
12. Lie In Our Graves - Dave Matthews Band
When I'm walking by the water, comes up through my toes, to my ankles, to my head, to my soul, I'm blown away.
I don't what it is about this song that captures the whole mood of my group of friends. It brings back memories of bonfires and summer conferences at the beach and sitting around jamming.
13. Yeah - Usher
My outfit's ridiculous, in the club lookin' so conspicuous.
I know the lyrics to this song are Very Bad, but I'm totally hooked on it anyway. I usually have a "cruisin' song" on my annual soundtracks, so this would be it. If Evan and I are going somewhere in separate cars and this comes on, he calls to tell me, and then I start car-dancing at red lights just to entertain him.
14. Love You Out Loud - Rascal Flatts
I want the whole world to know just what I’m all about.
More mushiness. I like Rascal Flatts a lot, thanks to my sister.
15. When Nothing Satisfies - Jennifer Knapp
When it rains or it shines on this pillow of mine, I will lift up my head to the sky.
This song was on a mix CD that
Jessica sent me a long time ago...I had actually never heard it before. Now I think it's one of JK's best. It's simple and beautiful, and just the type of song that someone would sing for offertory at our church. I wish someone would.
16. Made For You - Watermark
Every road that we have crossed, I have always found a home in you.
I cannot count the emotional, thankful tears I have shed over this song this year. :) I almost wanted to have it in our wedding, but it didn't really fit.
17. All Because of You - U2
I'm not broke but you can see the cracks, You can make me perfect again.
It was hard to choose just one song from the new album, but I think I relate to this one the most.
18. Ordinary Day - Vanessa Carlton
Don’t you see your dreams are right in the palm of your hand?
If I could pick one song to summarize my year, this would be it. In some ways my life now does seem like a dream, but every morning when I wake up, I'm thankful all over again that it's real. :)
Bonus Track: Chosen Family - Myla & Luke
This is the song Myla wrote for our wedding, and she thoughtfully recorded it and put it on a CD for me. I was hesitant to play it for the world, for fear of copyright problems or something, but lately she’s wanting her music to be heard. So I am happy to include it. Yay!
This is a public entry, because there's nothing sensitive in it and I'm tired of seeing the same entry at the top when I log in. :)
