whirlwind activity
May. 19th, 2003 03:07 pmI am busy, busy, busy. I know I'm behind on a lot of surveys and stuff. I am working on them and will post them later, so do not fear, survey gurus. :)
I don't think I could have handled one more event this weekend. Friday night, I had the Benihana dinner with Ryan, Lawson, Shana, Jeremy, Teresa, and a bunch of their friends. Later, around 10 pm, Shana, Lawson, and I were watching the first Matrix at the apartment when Kathy ran in to say the sirens were going off. Again. So we turned on the TV, and there were several funnel cloud systems in the area, one of which was coming directly to us. We all trooped downstairs to sit in the stairwell, but didn't feel very safe, so we asked the downstairs neighbor if we could sit in her hallway with her. And so, as Shana said, six people and two cats ended up barricaded in a tiny hallway. Gandalf was acting weirder and weirder. He had been panicky since the start of the storm, but now all his fur was standing out and he was hissing and making scary noises. Kathy and I were very freaked out. After what seemed like a very long time, the worst of it passed and we went back upstairs. Just then, Lisa called me to make sure I was okay. This shook me up even more, because I thought if people knew about the storm in Dallas, it must be pretty bad. But I was grateful for the call. :) After that I was exhausted, and we all went to bed, except Lawson, who had to drive home in the flooding.
On Saturday, Shana, Lawson, and I went to Pizza Cafe for lunch, and then I went out to Bartlett for a solitary Best Friend's Engagement Shopping Spree (slogan: "New clothes make everything better.") If you're curious, I took some pictures of my new clothes. I also bought some Biolage shampoo and conditioner. I spent some time with my family at the house and (finally) watched the tape of the Friends finale with them. Then I went home and collapsed.
Sunday was a huge day. It was Debra's 18th birthday and her baccalaureate. We had lunch at Olive Garden, went to the baccalaureate, then went to their church because the youth choir was having a special performance. As far as Debra had told my family and I, she had a duet or something. Nope. She had an entire solo song with the choir backing her up. Then she got up there with this other guy (who was recently the lead in a local production of Oklahoma!) and led worship. My sister. Like she had been doing it all her life. She had never even sung in public before by herself. We were totally flabbergasted. I had never even heard her sing, other than times we've spent being silly in the car. After the service, ten other dads came up to my dad to tell him how good Debra was and how they didnt even know she could sing. We kept saying, "Neither did we!" Just amazing. I was so proud, and she was ecstatic that she managed to surprise us. It was some evening.
Dear God: Please cause this week to have slightly less drama than last week. If not, I think I might go into a coma. Thanks. Your daughter, Brens.

That dress is TOO CUTE! That's a nice perk-up for an otherwise emotional roller coaster of a week. Hooray!
