I can't wait for Return of the King. I need to start re-reading, in preparation, but I'm still bogged down by Robert Jordan's Lord of Chaos. Incidentally, I think that's one of the coolest book titles ever. It lets everyone know that you're not a sissy. "What are you reading?" "Lord of Chaos." "Awesome." :)

Some bad news: Evan got in a wreck last night en route to my apartment. He was trying to cross Poplar from a side street with tall bushes- it's a major blind spot and I've always found it nerve-wracking- and pulled out too far and got hit by an oncoming Suburban. I'm so glad he wasn't hurt. There are a million ways it could have been so much worse, so I'm trying to look on the bright side. Amazingly the car is still driveable, but maybe not for long. If any of you hear of another $500 car for sale, please let me know.

Fridays are good.

Are you the type to more likely be early, late, or right on time for events (work, social engagements, class, church, etc.)? Why?
I'm almost always early. For four years of my life I was forced to live by my band director's creed, "If you're on time, you're late." It has stuck with me to the point that I still feel nervous if I'm late for things, even though there's no one to make me run laps. :P

Do you enjoy some of the "finer" things like nice hotels, nice restaurants and nice clothes, or do you think they are a waste of money?
I used to think so, but now I think some things are worth the extra money. I'm semi-picky about the clothing brands I buy, because higher quality lasts longer. I agree with [livejournal.com profile] contradictions that "nice" restaurants of the tiny-serving variety aren't worth it, but I'm willing to pay extra for Macaroni Grill once in a while. In the past I wouldn't have said nice hotels were worth the expense, but now I can stay in them for free, or very cheap. So I'm probably ruined for life. Hee hee.

Have you ever sold anything on ebay? Like what?
Nope, but I have some things I'd like to sell. I’m just nervous about the selling process and don’t feel like spending the money.

Have you ever had a crush on or fascination with a celebrity? Who was it and when?
Clay's the first celebrity I've had a serious crush on. Obviously, it’s waned since Evan and I started dating, but I still like and admire him more than any other celebrity I’ve ever heard of. When I was six I was fascinated by Big Bird, but I don’t guess that counts.

If you had to do something in the entertainment field as your job, and would make you a celebrity, what would you do?
I'd like to be a writer, but who knows if that will ever happen. I haven't written anything in years. Maybe I’m just kidding myself. Is writing "entertainment," anyway?

What is your birth order (oldest, youngest, etc.) and out of how many children? What are some of the positives and negatives to being in this order with your siblings (or without siblings, as the case may be)?
I’m the oldest of three by a long shot. My sister is almost six years younger, and my brother eight and a half years younger. Positives: I had my parents to myself for a long time, which is something few people can say. Negatives: I was often blamed for things my siblings did because I "knew better." They got privileges long before I did, and didn’t have to fight for them. My parents did better financially as my siblings got older, so nice clothes were not an impossible dream for them. Also, when you’re that much older than your siblings, there comes a time when it’s a little weird. When I started college, my brother was still in elementary school. I had a hard time relating to him and my sister for a few years, but now that we’re older, we’re all back on the same page. It’s nice.

How far would you prefer to live from your parents?
Right now I live 20-30 minutes away (depending on traffic), and that’s just about perfect. Actually, I’d like to live a little closer, but I think overall the distance is good.

How far would you prefer to live from your siblings?
See above. Debra lives in Nashville now and that’s just way too far.

If you could read a biography on anyone on your LJ friends list, who would it be? (You can't answer "all of them", you need to decide on someone you're very curious about and/or don't know a lot about.)
That's hard, because there are several of you I'd like to know more about. But I choose [livejournal.com profile] unpoedic because, like everyone has said, she seems shrouded in mystery. :)

What do you think about reality TV shows? Which one do you find the most entertaining?
I like talent-type reality shows like American Idol, but I feel varying degrees of disgust for the voyeuristic ones. I watched Survivor the first season, and I used to watch the Real World rather obsessively (during the Hawaii/New Orleans era), but I think they’ve gone too far now. Temptation Island and Fear Factor make me sick. Plus, they’re so contrived. You know they’ve picked people to stir up conflict. I don’t like conflict in real life, so I don’t really enjoy watching it either.

Who was the biggest influence on you in terms of manners (table manners, general social etiquette, etc.)? How would you rate your manners? What needs the most and least amount of improvement?
My parents were never very big on etiquette. They taught us general table manners and how to be well-behaved, but not any of the formal stuff. In that respect I would say Em’s been my biggest influence. :) She was a debutante several years ago, and we spent hours one day studying her etiquette book. It had a section about introducing your servants to different guests. Yeah, I’m so going to need that knowledge someday. :P I think my general manners are fine- I usually know which fork to use- but I’m very bad about thank-you notes and things like that. So I’d rate myself about a 7.

Which acts of chivalry do you think are silly or unnecessary? Which do you think are important and should be practiced as much as possible? Which are nice but rare to see in practice?
The jacket in the mud is unnecessary, and standing up when a lady comes in seems like kind of a pain. Other than that, I like chivalrous things. Opening doors, letting women go first, helping to carry things, and paying are all important. I’m more motivated to act like a lady when I’m treated like one. :) Walking on the outside of the sidewalk, for protection, is a nice one that you hardly ever see today. It’s funny, but Em used to do this to me when we took walks. She didn’t want me to get hit by a car or something. (Near the University, this is a legitimate concern.) :)

Yay! I love it when I make it into your survey answers! I am glad to know that I positively influenced your manners. Maybe I should go on tour teaching people to properly introduce their servants to their guest. Forget being a lawyer- I'll be the next Emily Post or Amy Vanderbilt. ;) lol.

I am glad that Evan is ok. I know how stressful that is- Daniel was in a wreck this summer getting off of Sam Cooper at Highland and it really upset me. But thank goodness he is ok.

love the brens!

Love

I love fine and fancy things! I get to stay in lots of really nice hotels because my father's work pays for them. The only problem is that you have to tip the man who parks your car, the butler, the guy who takes up your luggage, the guy who calls a cab, etc, etc. You can't touch anything in the room (it might cost extra) and you NEVER wear your swimsuit through the lobby. (tee-hee) I've done that once or twice, and MY what dirty looks I got!

I'm sorry about the wreck, but thankful that Evan is okay! (I used to nanny for a baby named Evan and everytime I see that name, his little bald head pops into my mind.)
Macoroni Grill has been my favorite restaurant for a long time... now I'm leaning towards Sweet Basil (Thai food!)- maybe it's a pregnancy thing- I dunno. =P

Is the Lord of Chaos a parody? Or what? :)

No, it's for real! You know how those fantasy novels are. It does sound like a parody, though, doesn't it? :)

Yes, DO read the books! I definitely recommend the books over the movies, although I do like the movies.

I'm glad to hear Evan's ok. Hopefully he wasn't too shook up (or however you would use the word "shake" grammatically in this sentence, lol). I hope he can find a new car *crosses fingers*
