Happy Hanukkah! :)

I am back. Yesterday I stayed home. I got five hours' sleep, and in the morning I felt absolutely horrible. Just washing my face took all my energy; I had to get back in bed. I called in sick and went back to sleep. The phone woke me up at 11:30. I haven't slept that late since high school. Other than being sick, it was a nice day. Kathy was also home, being sick herself, and we wrapped presents (once we could sit up for more than five minutes). Debra brought me some of my dad's magical chicken soup. In the evening, Evan came over and we exchanged Christmas presents. He got me three books from my wishlist: Traveling Mercies, The Ragamuffin Gospel, and The Pleasures of God. I was so happy- he really put thought into the selection, and he also knew that no one ever gets books for me, so he did that instead of getting movies or CDs. He is so sweet and thoughtful and knows me so well. We watched Friends together, and this line resulted in much grinning and google-eyes:

Joey: Was it weird when you and Monica got together?
Chandler:...Actually, no. It was more like, "I can't believe we haven't been doing this the whole time."

Sadly, tonight I have to take my beloved to the airport, where he will board a plane for New Hampshire, which is very very far away. Happily, Em (not Santa Claus) is coming to town tonight, and there will be much girl talk and togetherness. So I'll survive.

We just had our annual departmental Christmas potluck. It was a nice break. For the past month or so, my job has been taking me to new, insane heights of stress. I have the usual support work for my bosses, plus a bunch of new data entry stuff, plus projects I'm doing myself, one of which is nightmarish. I'm starting to feel angry and tense eight hours a day. I guess this is normal for most working people, but I find it troubling. When the phone rings for the seventh time in an hour, and it's the same client who called the other six times, and I want to rip the phone out of the wall and throw it down the stairs, I start to worry about myself. :(

The movie was AMAZING. Absolutely incredible. I really don't even have words for it. I was completely satisfied. I thought the few changes were faithful to the spirit of the book, and didn't detract from the story at all. I was so glad they redeemed Faramir; I would have loved to see he and Eowyn and the Houses of Healing, but I'm not angry about that omission. Minas Tirith was beautiful and awe-inspiring. The Pelennor Fields were right in line with what I had imagined. I agree with the others that I wish they'd kept the illusion of Dernhelm, but I guess that's harder to hide on film. Also, I wish they had included Theoden saying "Hail King of the Mark" to Eomer- that's one of the moments that always gets me. But it was okay as it was. And Eowyn was perfect. I am no man. Chills. :) I've finally decided that the Rohirrim are my favorite race of Middle-Earth. They're so noble and brave and cool. :)

Oh, and Sam. Unbelievable. [livejournal.com profile] dakoda and [livejournal.com profile] tingilya, I'm tempted to name my son Sam, too. What an amazing story.

Anyway, if another movie wins Best Picture this year, I'll be writing some mean letters, because I just don't see what could beat that. Even if you don't like LOTR, go see this movie. I bet you'll change your mind. :)

The original cut for RotK was apparently 4.5 hours long - you may get your wish on all of the above :)

Wonderful, Merciful Savior is the best song ever.

Let me know what you think of The Ragamuffin Gospel. I'm a fan of Mr. Mullins.

the Ragamuffin Gospel was written by Brennan Manning, not Rich.

Where in NH is Evan going? How about if you and I go out there and we can visit Evan and my sister's family. :)

Manchester. Where your sister lives. :) I should have told him to look her up. Because that wouldn't have freaked her out at all. :)

I dropped Teresa off at the airport earlier this afternoon too. It's a sad thing, but I need some personal time too.

Hey Brenda, just found this on IMDB, figured it may interest you. :)
---------------------

Here is a list of things most likley in the EE:

*OBVIOUSLY BOOK SPOILERS*

-Saruman getting killed by Wormtounge in Isengard

This scene was definatly filmed and will definatly be in the Extended Edition

-Merry getting 'knighted' by Theoden

Definatly filmed, as it can be seen in many trailers. Wether or not it is in the EE is unsure, yet Theoden seems to have a good relationship with him in ROTK when he tells him he cannot fight, so I'm quite confident it will be in.

-Aragorn, Gimli, Legolas and the Undead killing all the Corsairs and hijacking the ships

This scene was definatly filmed and PJ has confermed it will be in the EE. He has also claimed that himself (as the Corsair leader) and Aragorn have a two minute fight, and eventually is killed by Legolas. Could be silly, but if not, a scene worth the wait.

-The Witch King confronts Gandalf

Definatly filmed and can be found on many posters. The scene apparently takes place on the walls rather than at the gates. This confronation is highly hinted at, with the Witch King telling an Orc, that "I will break him" (referring to Gandalf). This scene will most likely take place while Gandalf and Pippin are riding up to save Denethor, and the Witch King will fly away to the Rohirrim.

-Eomer finds Eowyn 'dead'

This scene is in the trailer and has been reported to have been seen by press months ago. It also has been said that it is a very powerful scene, and Eomer (Karl Urban) shows excellent acting skills.

-House of Healing

Definatly filmed, PJ has said they had to take it out because of pacing reasons. I completly agree, because semi-nonbook-fans would have found it hard to have those scenes in there. It will be in the EE for us. Also, Pippin tells a very sick Merry that he will look after him, and immeadiatly they are off the the Black Gate and Merry is perfectly fine. I think a good chunk of EE footage will be here.

-Farimir and Eowyn's wedding

I can't quite remember if they acually get married in the book, but I recall a report earier on the year that someone was on set when their wedding was filmed. A scene with them kissing is definatly filmed, whether or not it is in the House of Healing or not is unknown.

-More Sam, Frodo and Mordor scenes

I haven't heard anything about this, yet in the film, it seems hinted at. They suddenly are wearing their old clothes and have gone a great distance into Mordor. Perhaps the scene where they are found by a band of Orcs, who don't notice that they are Hobbits, and the jump off the bridge will be in there. These types of scenes I have no proof on.

Sorry about the work related stress. I deal with that pretty regularly..but I'm getting used to it.

I don't know if it's just because it's night time and I'm tired and have a lot of things on my mind right now...but I was watching the little guy that you have selected for "stressed" and he has those three little marks over his head that flash from one to the other..and I seriously lost track of what I was going to do next..I just sat here for like a minute straight, watching the marks move...oddness.
