where do we go now?
Dec. 30th, 2003 08:42 amEvan is home!
Debs and I went to the airport last night to collect him and Ryan. In case you didn't know, an airport during Code Orange is a completely insane place, even at 9:00 on a Monday night. The first block or so of the parking garage was roped off, so people were fighting for spots. I spent fifteen minutes circling like a hawk. We finally parked (not thanks to the lady in the Yukon who cut in front of me) and went to the terminal, where I was by far the most excited person waiting. Everyone else looked like they were waiting for the executioner. I wanted to yell, "Aren't you happy? Your people are coming home!" I settled for bouncing around in my seat. Then Evan finally appeared, and the ten days hath ended. Ryan and Debs left us so as not to be embarrassed by our excessively mushy reunion. Today I am a happy, happy, happy girl. I knew I missed him, but I don't think I even realized how much. I feel complete now. :) In a little while we're going to lunch together at McAlister's. Yay!
Okay, I have several other exciting topics of discussion!
Hair. One of my Christmas presents from my mom was Ouidad's curly hair book. I am really benefiting from her knowledge. Apparently (take note, other curlyheads) we're not supposed to pile our hair on top of our heads, while shampooing or drying it in a towel (turban head). I had never heard this, but I stopped doing those things and let it dry in the open air. I thought, what difference can it make? A lot. My hair looks ten times better - light and fluffy, but not frizzy. It's amazing. Now I want one of her haircuts. Unfortunately, they cost $100. Maybe when I win the lottery.
Books. Anne Lamott is my new favorite writer. I've already mentioned how inspiring Traveling Mercies was. Well, my parents got Bird by Bird for me, and it too is awesome. I actually feel like I could write again when I'm reading this book. Her advice is practical, smart and funny. I am now on a quest to read her entire body of work. :)
Music. I'm crazy about the CD I burned the other night for all my New Year's Eve cruising. It has 21 diverse peppy songs, and I feel that it is nothing short of genius. Oh, and that reminds me- the 2003 CD is ready to go. I've made my copy with the label and everything. It includes selections from Caedmon's Call, Clay Aiken, Switchfoot, and many more! Now...who wants one? Please note that quantities will be limited, because mass shipping is expensive.

Date: 2003-12-30 03:01 pm (UTC)Ugh- and don't you hate how competitive parking lots can be. I've been cussed out for parking in a spot that had been "claimed" by someone else. (I didn't know that!) Anyway, it was NOT plesant and I wanted to sink into the ground. Yukons are the worst for cutting people off! ;-P
