Finally, a quiet moment. I better seize it. :P

So yesterday was my four-monthiversary. Evan and I had lunch. We didn't think we'd have any other time together, since he was supposed to have a class from 6-9. It was cancelled, though (on the first day), so he got to go watch Chasing Liberty with Debs and I. (I was surprised that he was willing to see it, but he was determined to have a monthiversary activity.) I really enjoyed the movie. The scenery was beautiful. It made me regret that I didn't spend my college-age years backpacking through Europe. I suggested to Evan that we go to Venice for our five-monthiversary. He laughed. I can't imagine why.

Debra went back to Nashville today. I'm sad. Thus endeth my female companionship.

The other day I started listening to Room for Squares again, after leaving it alone for a few months. I know some of you don't like John Mayer because of his overly breathy delivery. I find it annoying, too, but his songs are just wonderful. I enjoy his romantic songs even more now. :)

Random items I have been pondering: Why do the stars seem closer and clearer in wintertime? What causes deja vu (and don't say when they change something in the Matrix)? Why is my neighboring apartment still vacant after ten months?

My attempt to eat healthier is going well...I think. I had a Doubletree cookie today because they were giving them away downstairs, but that's my first major splurge in a while. I've been eating a lot of vegetables and drinking diet drinks instead of regular. I feel lighter. Of course, I don't own a scale, so I have no way of knowing how I'm doing. What kind of weirdo goes on a diet without a scale? :) Last night I ate with my family at a new restaurant, Firebirds. It gets my seal of approval- the menu items are unusual in a good way. I had a salmon salad that was to die for. Maybe we can go there when the California crew comes to visit.

Finally, why [livejournal.com profile] dakoda is one of my favorite people: "Danny and Kitchie came up with this idea for there to be cell phones all throughout LOTR...they talked about how Gandalf, being all old, would have one of those ancient cell phones that are huge, and then when Gandalf says in ROTK that Frodo has passed beyond his sight, he'd say "Frodo has passed beyond my service range." And then Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas would talk about the roaming expenses on their phones, because they're running all over Middle-Earth. And then with Frodo and Sam, Frodo would exceed his free minutes, and he'd be like "Sam, it's all over now....I've used up all of my minutes!" and Samwise will go "Here, take mine Mr. Frodo, I've got free nights and weekends."

Appreciated

Just wanted to let you know you're appreciated.

I was just thinking a few minutes ago that there were about three people whose entries I really enjoy reading who hadn't posted much lately. And then you appear on my friends page right away!

Oh, I don't mind! It's a two-bedroom. I started at $470 a month, so this would probably be about the same. I'm not sure what the deal is with this apartment, though. They were fixing it for a long time because the previous occupant was a total slob. Now it looks good, so I don't know what they're waiting for.

I love Firebirds Rocky Mountain Grill. My dad did some welding for them before they opened, and he was invited there for a free dinner with his family (but I couldn't be there.) They've been back maybe 6 times, and I've been there twice. The first time I had the pecan-encrusted salmon, and the second time I had their BLT salad. It was by far the best salad I've ever tasted. :)

Hey, your dad did a good job- I was thinking how nice it looked inside. I'm hooked on the place now, anyway. Too bad it isn't cheaper. :P

Also, I found it ironic that they're a Colorado Rocky Mountain Grill, yet they have no locations in Colorado.

I remember when I was in Washington DC for a young politicians program, and they took us to a Tennessee Roadhouse Grill. I couldn't believe the odds. :P None of the food was particularly Tennesseeish, either.

I'd like to see Chasing Liberty (I'm all into the Mandy Moore lately, apparently), and I'm glad to hear that you liked it.

I've been meaning to listen to John Mayer a bit more. When I first got his CD, I listened a bunch, but now I only hear what plays on the radio. It's a good album. :)

Yeah, I'm in a Mandy Moore phase myself. Just FYI, there are a couple of nude scenes (you don't see anything) but it's not her! She refused to do them, so they got a stunt double. She is awesome. Unlike Michelle Branch and her Maxim photos. I'm so angry at her. :P

I know!!! It was awful. I'm so upset with her, I don't even want to listen to her music now. Mandy's pretty much the only one left who stands for what she believes in and refuses to be skanky. If she, too, goes the way of Britney, I may boycott the entertainment industry. :P

Ofcource he laughed. That's because you should go to Brugge for your five-monthisversary. It's even better than Venice. We even have place which is called the Lake of Love with swans. So, it's super romantic lol. I'll bet they don't have that in Venice. Also, if you come to Brugge you can visit meeeeee!

John Mayer does write awfully clever lyrics. One of my favorites is "but you could distinguish Miles from Coltrane" (it's not really 'clever', but so telling of how the girl in the song was important to the guy).

Is the apartment next to you seriously in the $500 range for a two bedroom? I'd give anything for real estate to be that reasonable here. I thought about going to school in Houston, and it was actually cheaper there than here (which I thought to be extremely odd).

Man, now I want to go listen to that song.

For comparison, aging and run-down 2-bedroom apartments in Davis run about $850 a month... or did last year; they've gone up this year. My roommates and I have a a small three-bedroom and it's almost $1500 a month.

You're in Nashville, right? I guess that's a trendier city, so it costs more. It is in the $500 range, but it's an old building (built in the 40's) and there's no insulation or central air or anything. And you can't have your own washer/dryer. But there are hardwood floors, and porches and a lot of plants and stuff. So it all balances out. :)

Yes - I'm here. You are so fortunate to be living in an older building with character! I grew up in a 1904 house that my parents restored - I miss the hardwood floors, the solidness of it, etc. :-) Even the radiators clanging.

Glad you enjoyed the movie! I like Mandy Moore. :-) Ah, and backpacking through Europe. My best friend travelled (light) in Europe, over the summer of '03 and she had the most amazing time.

Aw, I agree with you about John Mayer. He's great!

I often wonder the same things about stars in winter and deja vu! Ah, the questions of the universe. :-)

Take care, God bless! *hugs*

Deja vu: I don't like that part in the Matrix because that's not how deja vu happens. I mean that it doesn't happen once and in the next moment happen again. When I get deja vu, it's from something that feels like it happened at least a year ago.

I've heard that it's caused like this: usually, your brain processes what is going on around you and then it is put into memory. When you get deja vu, it's because something happens in your brain that makes it process what's happening as a memory, instead of as something happening at the moment. So it's making the memory as it happens, and at the same time telling you that it's a memory. Or something like that. But I can't remember where I heard that so I don't know how true it is. Maybe it's just a theory anyway.

Deja vu is a weird thing.

From: [identity profile] chestnutcurls.livejournal.com
Huh. I guess that makes sense. The weird thing with me is that, when I have deja vu, I feel like I've dreamed that exact scenario before, a long time ago. Like I saw the scene before it happened. I never feel like I've actually been there- it just seems familiar. And I get it a lot, at least once a day. Evan says that's unusual. So I wonder if I have an overactive brain or something. :P

I'd say that's unusual too. But interesting as well. I guess everybody gets it differently, and maybe some people don't get it at all.

Monthiversary and Deja vu

Date: 2004-02-15 05:48 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] agentry.livejournal.com
Monthiversary: Congrats! I hadn't heard that word until my brother talked about his a few months ago, and I just attributed it to one of his jaunts into wordsmithing. Have you heard it used often?

Deja vu: You can split the phrase into its components to better understand its meaning. Obviously it is of foreign origins, because it sounds funny. "De" is Spanish for "from." "Ja" is "yes" in German, and finally, "vu" is probably a corruption of the French word "vous," which means "you." That would roughly translate to "Yes, from you." To summarize, deja vu is caused by the short-circuiting of the brain due to the improper application of random foreign words.
