Today has been very busy, so I haven't gotten a chance to update until just now. There isn't much to tell. My weekend was not great. I spent a ton of time with my family and got some errands taken care of, and my sister bought me the self-titled Nickel Creek CD as a late Valentine's present. Those are basically the only good things that happened. Oh, and the weather remained nice even though it was supposed to get cold and rainy.

Attention Reformed people (and maybe some others): I found out that you can sing "From the Depths of Woe" (aka Psalm 130) over Creed's "One Last Breath." It's slower but the chords are exactly the same. Someone mentioned it when we were all at Garibaldi's last night and it cracked me up. Hymnody creeps into pop music.

I had some quality Bun time this weekend, which lifted my spirits. He seems content and in good health, but he'll be 8 next month and my parents kept saying matter-of-factly, "You need to spend more time with Bun, he's going to die soon." Obviously I got pretty upset, but I finally replied "Hey, do you want me to say things like that about you when you're 80?" The comments are fewer now.

My new window valance(y) doesn't work so well. Kathy feels it's too much pattern in contrast with the couch. Also, it's too short, so it sits in the middle of the curtain rod. I don't know what to do. I'm leaving it up for now because it's still better than no curtain at all, but I'd like to fix it.



I'm probably going to redesign tomorrow.

get a solid color or a contrasting pattern like a plaid or stripe (white, yellow & blue).

Are you looking for help/ideas for what to do with the existing valance, or a different one?

It's cheap or even free to take a sheet or other piece of material and sort of swoop it over the bar. Just let it hang some on the side, then wrap (drape) it over and over again and let it hang on the other side. I don't know if that makes any sense, but in my mind it makes perfect sense. :) Also, you can tie twine or other interesting string to the sides to give it a little extra detail.

Yes! That's the basic idea, though there's room for originality. I personally would probably not have them swoop down like a U so much, but it's all preference. Windows are fun because you can use so many household items to decorate them. One time I had a fish/underwater bedroom, and I made strings of shells as the holdbacks (what's the proper term?) to pull my curtains aside. I just put loops on each end and attached them to a nail.

Oh I didn't realize you had linked the canopy beds, too--those are more like how I'd want to do my own personal window covering. Brenda's links are hard to distinguish in her LJ style, I guess.

Just ideas in general. I'll probably move this valance to the dining room when I get another one. I wasn't sure it would work, but I really liked the little bows. :)

There's nothing wrong with the valance, you just didn't buy enough of them. That window most likely takes two. Your window cover should be twice the size of your window when stretched out fully. :)

In pulling potential colors from the loveseat (the apparent centrepiece), the blue in the background of the pattern is the more bold (however darker) approach, the blossom's yellow or the leafy green more elegant, and a simple white (e.g. as with the halogen/the crown molding—love that!) the more sharp-looking in contrast to the wall coloring. I would personally go for either the green or white, though the yellow does have a valid argument.

I am sorry this past weekend was not exactly ideal; but yes, family and Nickel Creek* are definite moves in the direction of a better weekend. ;)

I like discovering those kinds of tune analogies. I remember first realizing that "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" and the alphabet song share a tune. And, later, realizing that the Veggie Tales song "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything" is to the tune of "I've Got Peace Like A River." And also this past Thursday, I lead worship at the prayer meeting I go to, and I did Amazing Grace to the tune of "Peaceful, Easy Feeling" by the Eagles. It was fun.

When I first read your last sentence, I thought it said "I'm going to resign tomorrow," and I wondered how you could possibly so matter-of-fact about it. (-:

Maybe a solid color cloth with some kind of texture? I do that with clothing a lot since I prefer solids over patterns.

I think the valance doesn't look that bad as it is. But then again, I'm a college student. College students usually have rather ghetto tastes in decorating. Not that your valance is ghetto in any way, I just mean it's perfectly normal for us to wrap Christmas lights around our inflatable palm tree so that it doeesn't fall over.

Maybe you could cut it in half, hem the ends, and distribute the two pieces evenly across. Or go with Jessica's idea. I like her idea.
