Okay, I guess I'll do this thing too: Pick an interest from my interests list that you either: 1: don't know anything about or 2: can't understand why I would like it.

The anonymous-notes-to-20-people thing looks fun too, but I just don't have time. :)

It's a Playstation game, kind of like Tetris only you have to think the opposite way. You group blocks of the same color together to create "gems," and when you break them, the other person gets slammed with blocks which they then have to break. It's addictive. :)

What is aiel?

The Aiel are a race in the Wheel of Time books. They're sort of a blend of Japanese and Native Americans...most of them (including the women) are in these warrior societies, and they have a system of honor that their whole society is based around. It's hard to describe, but I think they're really cool. You have to read the books, I guess. [livejournal.com profile] suziannabean is probably the only person on the friends list who knows what that is, because she has Aviendha on her interests list, the coolest Aiel of all. :)

I'm a super-dork.

Is "calvinism" the study of Calvin & Hobbes?

I couldn't click it either, though I can tell it's purple and therefore a link. The source has the URL:

http://www.reformed.org/calvinism/

I'm not sure what happened to make it not show up.

OK...I didn't get anything purple out of it. (Though I had a strong suspicion that clicking on "here" was the desired response.)

No the "here" is purple because links are purple. Brenda's journal has text in black and links in purple, but it's a dark purple so it's really hard to tell. Anyway, you can't click on her link, for some reason, but she did attempt to make a link so I don't know what's wrong.

nah, think of how much research people had to do to find out the answer - you remember stuff better when you have to "work" for it! Now I know there was a person named John Calvin, etc. Not the cute kid from the comics. ;)

How often do you burst into song? Or is it other people bursting into song that you like? Or birds in the morning? Elaborate. (-:

I have a semi-educated guess - is it for Buffy, the musical? Did anyone else wake up this morning & burst into song? ;)

All of the above. :) I usually burst into song when the cat (or the bunny) is nearby. I once called, "Cat, cat," to Gandalf in a singsong way, so Evan made up a song:

Cat-Cat, he's Cat-Cat
He has two names, and they're the same,
Cat-caaaaat!

But yes, I like all variations of song-bursting. I'm sure you haven't seen this, but there was a musical episode of Buffy where a curse came over the town and they were all forced to sing about their innermost feelings. I've quoted from it a few times in the lyrics quiz. It's one of the greatest episodes in TV history. :)

R.C. Sproul is a theologian. He has a ministry called Ligonier Ministries (http://www.ligonier.org) and has written many books like Chosen By God and The Holiness of God. I like him because he has the C.S. Lewis knack of explaining deep things in concise, easy-to-understand terms.

Definitely the TV show. :) Have you seen it? You would love it. I think it's the best show on TV. Evan quotes from it constantly.

The Blue Castle (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0553280511/qid=1080051962/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/103-9755938-1255004?v=glance&s=books) is my favorite LM Montgomery book. It's about a woman who, when she learns she has a year to live, breaks free of her Pharisaical family and fulfills her dreams. It's not just a cheesy love story as the cover would have you believe, nor a novel for ages 9-12 as Amazon would have you believe. :P :)

What, more specifically, is it about "Children's Literature" that you like?

(no subject)

Date: 2004-03-23 07:19 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] chestnutcurls.livejournal.com
Everything. :) Some of it is better than adult literature, because the author can't just write about sex or something...there has to be an actual plot. Imagine that! :P I think my real calling is to be a children's librarian, or to own a bookstore like Meg Ryan in You've Got Mail. But I feel like it's too late now. Maybe I can take some library science after I have kids, or something.
