four-day week
Apr. 27th, 2004 03:10 pmAbout time I posted, huh?
Well, this weekend was great. It was so good to see Jessica, Jonathan, and Dania again...almost a year is too long! On Friday night Lawson (
aardwolf) and I went to pick them up at the airport. They arrived early, and we happily drove to my apartment, where Evan was waiting. Then we all went to a late dinner at McAlister's. Jessica found the tea to be too sweet (gasp! :)), but everyone seemed happy with the food. I was glad. After dinner we went back to the apartment, played Super Puzzle Fighter, and watched Friends and the weather. Dania and Jessica were enthralled by the lightning from an approaching storm. Later, after the guys had left and we were talking, lightning struck something very nearby and scared us all. Including Gandalf. :)
On Saturday morning we slept in (a little) and then decided to go out to Shelby Farms to see the buffalo (an experience I'm sure Shana and Melissa remember fondly). The six of us met up with Ryan there. When we had had enough of watching the buffalo roam, we had lunch at Chick-fil-A and then headed back to my neighborhood to check out my and Lawson's offices. Then we went downtown, where we walked along the river and down Beale Street, and then to the Peabody to see the ducks. We watched them waddle down the red carpet, back to their duck palace on the roof. Then we had dinner at the world-famous Rendezvous, where the world-famous seasoning seemed to be on everything, even in our drinks. After dinner, we were tired and a storm was coming, so we went back to Lawson's and watched Stir of Echoes. A scary ending to a fun day. :)
Early Sunday morning, I went back to Lawson's to pick up the Californians and we went to my church. Yay! I was excited to go to church with them. After first service we met up with
admael and then went to Sunday school, where the visitors were a big hit. :) They got to meet Ashley and Kathryn, among others, and I was happy. We had lunch at Back Yard Burgers, another must when visiting Memphis, and then spent the afternoon hanging out at Lawson's. J, J, & L recorded a song, while Dania and Evan watched TV and I fell asleep on the couch. Later Jessica thought we should cook dinner, so after a quick trip to Kroger, she made her famous Chicken Marsala. I took mental notes so Evan could benefit later from her expertise. :) It was a fun and delicious meal. We finished off with strawberry shortcake (of sorts) and A Bug's Life.
On Monday we really slept in, which I think we all needed. I met up with the group at Memphis Pizza Cafe for Monday lunch. Helen, Robin, and Jeremy were also there, making it the most impressive LJ gathering I've attended so far. We had a great time. After lunch we went back to my apartment so J, J & D could meet Kathy (who had just gotten home from Washington, DC), and Dania could take another picture of Gandalf, who seemed very happy about all the company and attention. On the way to the airport, we stopped by Graceland and took a few pictures to complete the Memphis experience. Then our time together was at an end (sniff). Lawson and I hung out with them at the airport for a while, and then we said goodbye. Au revoir, my friends, not adieu. :) Thanks for coming to see me.
Sorry for such a boring and repetitive write-up. I'm sure the others will do better. :) I have pictures, but I'm still waiting on approvals for some of them.
I was so tired after they left that I just sat around the apartment for the rest of the day/evening. I had a feeling that I was coming down with some sinusey thing. Evan came straight from work so we could have some quality time, and it was nice to have him there. I went to sleep at 10! Today my throat feels awful and I could still go back to sleep. At least I don't have to do anything tonight!

A new value of pi to assign
I'd fix it at 3
For it's easier, you see
Than 3.14159
