chestnutcurls: (flute)

Happy Monday. Our network at work is battling the latest Blaster worm today. Co-workers keep telling our department to turn our computers off, but everything seems fine now, so we're not going to sit here doing nothing. :P I'm tired of the arguing about it, though.

Like most of the friends list, I saw 13 Going On 30 this weekend, and loved it. The soundtrack was awesome! I also saw Man On Fire, which was violent and unnecessarily long (2.5 hours), but powerful and with surprising Christian themes. It's a haunting film, especially considering that violent kidnapping really is a major problem in Latin America. The things we take for granted in the US. I did not rent Love Actually as intended, because I was busy. I went to a dinner-and-auction fundraiser for the youth group at my family's church, and bid on a couple of things which my dad then insisted on paying for. My parents spoil me. :) Then I feel guilty. I don't want them to think I expect that sort of thing.

The flute trio went well. I made a mistake I'd never made before, which was irritating, but Evan said he couldn't tell. Everyone came up to us and said nice things. Amy (one of the other flutes) said God must have put a screen between us and the congregation. But we felt good about it, mistakes and all, so we're going to do it again sometime...and they said it'll be my turn to have first part! It's amazing how my attitude about playing has changed. Of course I liked playing in high school, but it was so stressful. I dreaded anything that put me in the spotlight because I wasn't good enough. Now I'm comfortable, and my flute is a release for me, not a chore. As Garth says, "I like to play."

Evan is off today, so he came to lunch. It was exciting to see him during the day! Tonight he's coming to the library with me; I finished American Gods yesterday. I don't really know what to say about it. About a third of the way through I decided to stop reading it, because it's kind of rough and has a lot of gratuitous immorality. But then the plot started moving along and I wanted to see what happened. Two days later I was finished, which is no small feat since it's about 600 pages. It's definitely interesting, but my bottom-line review is: proceed with caution. :)

Can anyone tell me how to save a picture from this site? It won't let me right click and save as.

Okay, now they're telling us to get off the computers. Aaargh!

Our network at work is battling the latest Blaster worm today.

Our department was fine because I ran Windows Update on our computers 2-3 weeks ago when the latest Microsoft patch came out. Anthony thanked me and said I won the award- that's why our computers (and hence our server) wasn't affected. =)

how were you able to do that? did you hack into some administrator priviledges or something? about 1/2 of my people have turned off, but I think they're just looking for an excuse not to work. I haven't had any problems since coming back from lunch.

Nope. I just went to Windows Update and downloaded the patch when it came available.

You could do "Alt + PrntScrn", which saves a screenshot to the clipboard, and then paste it into Paint or whatever, edit it, and save it is a jpg or gif or whatever.

What she said.

Seriously, that's precisely what I would do. Except I wouldn't bother with the extreme effort of the "Alt" key when I'm just gonna pull it into an application and crop it anyway. Sheesh. What a waste of energy.

Have you seen Love Actually yet? As you mentioned with the book, the movie should probably be watched with caution. I actually felt a little depressed about love after I watched it. :-(
From: [identity profile] chestnutcurls.livejournal.com
Oh! :( I still haven't seen it. But thanks for the warning!

yea it is a FLASH file if you want the file you could load the page and go into your temp internet files and grab it other wise like was said before you can do a sceen capture and then edit the capture to get the face. also the file is not protected so you can import the file into the real flash not just the player and steal the info

My hubby was just asking the other day how you like the book. I told him you probably weren't done yet as it is way long and you had another book ahead of it anyway. But way to go - that was a long one to speed through that quickly!

I haven't tried it yet, but what happens when you click email? Doesn't it send you the image that way?

We debated seeing Love Actually but it seems to have a lot of sexual/nudity type of stuff. That really wears on me, particularly when it's in a comedy. But if everyone says it's good I still might see it. Sometimes screenit.com is so detailed that it portrays a movie differently than it actually is.

Love Actually is a amazing movie with a great soundtrack. The nudity is not nudity it fits the movie it is not added just to up the ratings.

I admire you for your stance on movies! Sometimes it's easy just to brush off nudity and sex because it's so well accepted in the media. I went to see "Love Actually" with my Mom and was semi-embarassed by the nude scenes. Not the nudity itself, but what they were portraying and why they were there. Yeah, it had to do with the story. But it was really unnecessary to even include something like that in the script. I love the movie, but I could do without those scenes.

Oh and I should say that my boyfriend is a very good influence on me (in many ways, but this is one of them) in this respect. He is very careful about what he watches, and my parents (dad) were never quite as careful with us kids. I didn't think as much about a lot of things until I spent a lot of time with Jonathan.

Yes, they have to cite every reference, so sometimes it'll be "extreme" only because there are 10 mentions of sex or shows of cleavage, etc. Then you can have a movie with "moderate" and it has like a whole sex scene or something. It's really hard to tell.

I save pictures from that site by hitting print screen and then pasting it into my photo editor and cropping it. If you wanna e-mail me a screen cap, I can crop and shrink it down for you.

Amy is a flute or a flutist? I am picturing this flute growing legs and walking around! I am glad the trio went well. I have not done any serious flute thing since I was in high school. I still play songs - mainly Christian ones, when Geoff isn't home but I do miss the band type setting a bit.

Yeah that would be cool. I have a friend here who plays the flute too, she played at my wedding. We keep talking about getting together and playing but we never have yet, oh well.

Glad the flute trio went well! Most folks don't notice and don't care about mistakes. Music in church is just so beautiful that it doesn't matter. We have a violinist who plays at our church from time to time and she's always talking about mistakes she makes, and most of us are just sitting there thinking, "Wow! I wish *I* could play like that. Amazing!"

Yeah, violin is inherently impressive. I wish I could learn, but it's not an instrument you can just try out. :P
