Happy, happy, happy belated birthday to dakodaSharon! She's such a great person. If you don't know her, you should. Her sense of LOTR humor alone is enough reason to friend her. :)

Well, I'm alive. I feel bad for my lack of LJ participation lately, but I can barely keep up with my non-computer life. The frenetic activity of the last few weeks is finally catching up with me. I'm drinking caffeinated coffee, on the official hottest day of the year, because I thought I might not be able to stay awake without it. The allergies I've had for three weeks returned as soon as I got back from Virginia, and today my eyes hurt. I even brought my glasses to work in case I have to take my contacts out. Tonight there's no band practice- thanks, God- so I'm going to stay home, do laundry, be restful, and go to sleep around 9:00.

So Virginia was good. I didn't get to see much of Fredericksburg- mainly the mile-long route between the hotel and Evan's aunt's house- but it was pretty. Like Memphis, only greener. To refresh your memory, we were there for the wedding of Evan's cousin Beth. It's an interesting story. Beth and her husband have actually been married for over a year. He's in the Army, and they'd just gotten engaged when he got his orders to Iraq. So with their parents' permission, they went ahead and got married and he went overseas. Now he's back, so they wanted a real ceremony. It was neat, but as Evan aptly put it to me, "This wedding-when-you're-already-married thing is kind of weird." It was very small and brief. The reception was gorgeous, though, and we took notes. :) It was held at an Elks Lodge, and the family did a great job with the decorating. I'll post pictures soon.

Evan's relatives all liked me and I felt like I fit right in. They're a lot like my family. :) His younger cousin Megan (who's actually more like his sister because she lives with his parents) said sweet things about how Evan has grown up and become more responsible because of me. His aunt and uncle kept teasing that they felt bad for me, getting stuck with him, and that Evan's parents flew me in on such short notice because they don't want to let me get away. LOL. Of course, I know I'm getting the good end of this marriage deal and he's the one they should feel sorry for, but it's fun to hear those sorts of things. :) Anyway, I'm really noticing now how marriage is a merging of families. Not only do I gain a husband, but I gain a whole new family too. How cool is that? I doubt I'd be as glad about it if they weren't all so nice. God is gracious, though. :)

We flew in and out of Reagan Airport. I hoped we could visit monuments since we got to the airport early, but we decided there wasn't time to take the metro to the Capitol and back without getting stressed. Evan reminded me that we'll visit Emily and Daniel sometime and can see those things then, at leisure, but I was still disappointed. :( I got depressed for a minute and said we'd never be able to travel again after the wedding because we'll be too poor. Evan was very sweet and reminded me that we don't have to fly everywhere. Then I felt better. He's so nice to comfort me in my selfish whining.

Oh, and I found InStyle Weddings in the Atlanta airport. Yay!

As the girls know, I found a wedding dress yesterday! I won't describe it in case Evan sees this, but it's beautiful and I'm so happy with it. Also, we talked it over and we've pretty much decided to go with the Jamaican honeymoon! :D I'm so excited. This means we'll have to get passports soon, on top of everything else, but it's a good idea to have a valid passport anyway. I got my last one when I was fifteen, so needless to say it's out of date. In the picture I have Brooke Shields eyebrows and am wearing a tie-dyed shirt. Ouch.

So far I'm enjoying having the apartment to myself. After getting back from the dress shop on Monday, Kathy and I went through piles of papers and junk from the dining room and threw a lot of stuff away. We're sort of going room by room, and things are looking good. In other exciting news, I had a nice talk with my landlady yesterday and it turns out we're allowed to paint! To think I've lived with my blindingly white kitchen for three years and could have had some color. Evan and I are planning to paint it and the bathroom (the only white rooms). Now we just have to decide on a color. I think we'll probably do blue. It depends on what bathroom stuff we choose for our registry. The Mills Apartment will look very different from the Brenda and Kathy Apartment. :)

Oh, and remember my busybody neighbor who works with our friend MaryElaine? A few months ago she had the audacity to ask MaryElaine if Evan spent the night at my apartment? Well, now she's complained to her that Evan is over all the time and she's certain that we're living together. !!!! I should laugh it off, but I get really angry at being accused of things when I'm part of the 5% of the population not doing them. I should leave her a note: In 139 days we WILL be living together. Legally. Deal with it. Anyway, Jesus was accused of things and didn't protest, so this is another area in which I fail to follow His example.

Okay, I've talked long enough.

I had to wear my glasses yesterday cause of the bad allergy situation going on right now. :(
On the nosy neighbor note, maybe you could sign her up for a dating service, so she would have her own "illicit" visitors to keep her busy!! ;)

What a silly, stupid busybody. It's a) none of her business and b) none of her business and c) none of her business. =) I can understand that though- lots of people assume things and when you're pointedly NOT that way, it's irritating to take the "higher ground" and maintain silence.

Well, I can't exactly read dakoda's journal to find out if I want to friend her... :P

I kind of want to paint my place, but I never got around to it. As you probably remember, all of the walls are bone white (guys tend not to remember stuff like that.) Now that I'm involved in a relationship, I might let Alicia help me pick colors for different rooms of the house. I bet she'd enjoy that.

If it makes you feel any better, I believe you're not living with Evan. ;)

I can always add you to my friends list for a test run. Consider it a free 30 day trial, if you aren't interested, just opt out with no obligations to buy or pay for anything. :)

Great... is that 30 days no interest? :)

Indeed. :D btw, I'm currently under the journal [livejournal.com profile] larienelanesse due to me needing to have a journal which family and friends are not reading (long story). I will add you to both and you can feel free to skim Dakoda if you'd like. :)

Oh, and I should also mention that my life is rather hectic at the moment, I'm trying to plan a wedding and figure out what track my life is going on, so my posts as of late are sporadic and a little on the edgy side. Fair warning. :)

Yay!!!! Now you can look at it every day. :-)

Jamaican honeymoon! :D I'm so excited.

That does sound exciting!

**giggle**

On the neighbor---just think how much more grateful you'll be one day to get into a place of your own, & while you are in the apartment, waiting for that day, when you & Evan make the list of things to pray about for your new place, be sure to put down you want to be blessed with postive neighbors. :-P

I can't look at it every day- it's at my parents'. Waaah! :)

Actually, I'm kind of excited about staying in our apartment. We're going to make it really homey. :) It will be great to have our own place someday, though.

Anyway, Jesus was accused of things and didn't protest, so this is another area in which I fail to follow His example.

If someone accuses you of doing wrong and you don't respond, that (generally) supports the accusations to the accuser and those around them. But the burden of proof is on the accuser, not the accused, so beyond stating your case, you have nothing to prove. In your situation, it seems as though they're trying to put the burden of proof on you, which I think is a totally valid reason to be upset. I'd be upset if it were me in your situation.

Jesus' case was different because he was headed for the cross. In a way, He took on our sins and thus was guilty of everything the accusers were throwing at him. Certainly he was guilty of calling himself the Son of God. He knew he had to go to the cross, and thus he made no protest on the way.

I'm glad, though not surprised, that you fit in well with Evan's relatives. And congrats on finding a dress! (-:

Yeah- the main reason I was upset is because this lady is kind of in with my landlady, who can also be kind of judgmental. I didn't want her spreading lies that would cause me to be evicted or something. :P But I talked to the landlady yesterday and we had a nice conversation, so she must not be upset with me. There's some sanity left in the world.

Good thoughts on heading for the cross- I never thought of it that way before.

I'm glad to hear that you fit in well with Evan's family. I remember when I first met Tash's family, and well... I met them all at once too! :)

As for your busybody neighbour incident, I don't think you're failing to not protest there. You can state your case and leave it at that - it's up to them to prove it and until then (since they're accusing), the worst that can happen is that they tell untrue stories and greatly enhance the likelihood that they will be known and remembered as a false accuser.

Anyway, I think that someone like you couldn't possibly be having Evan sleep over. You and God have far too much committed to each other to let that get between you, I reckon.

Oh, I'm sure she'll come up with something else! Kathy thinks the next thing will be the neighbor seeing Kathy's car there a lot when she comes over to visit, and then saying I'm having an affair. She's apparently determined to make me into a scarlet woman. I should feel sorry for her, that her life is so boring she has to sit around making stuff up about other people.

LoL My goodness, that truly is just sad. What's even more sad is that lady kind of reminds me of some of my family members:P
