if that's what you choose

I can't think of an appropriate lead-in, so I'll just start talking.
Friday night was Kathy's bachelorette party. Jamie, her sister, prepared a booklet of things she had to do. One of them was "Get a guy to sing an Elvis song to you." We had dinner at Jillian's and there was a guitarist playing "That's All Right." Jamie said it didn't count because Kathy hadn't requested it, so I went with her to request a song. The musician looked at the book and agreed to help us out, offering a Johnny Cash song instead. We told him Jamie might protest, so he said "I'll take care of this," then leaned into the microphone and said "JAMIE." in a James Earl Jones voice. "I'm going to play Johnny Cash instead, is that okay?" It was okay. We laughed a lot about that one. After dinner we walked around Peabody Place and then over to crowded Beale Street, where Kathy's fake veil attracted plenty of attention. Several guys came up to talk to her. Others yelled "Don't do it!" as we passed, which made me a little sad. A flower seller gave her a rose, and she then gave him a hug, which knocked one item off her list. :) We ended the evening at Maggie Moo's, where I tried Better Batter for the first time and was instantly hooked. It's ice cream that tastes just like cake batter. I probably gained five pounds, but man, was it worth it. Fun times.
Saturday morning was the bridesmaids' brunch. Kathy gave us our presents (which I won't tell about in case Em is reading, but they're beautiful)! After that, with my family out of town, Evan working, and Kathy busy, I had a whole blessed day to myself. I'd hardly gone anywhere alone since I got engaged, and while I love people, I really need space once in a while. So I did some leisurely fun shopping, then went to Wal-Mart for a big grocery trip. It was exciting buying lots of veggies and other healthy things. Also, since Evan keeps telling me to eat more calcium, I bought some yogurt. It's a lot better than I remembered! Anyway, I came home, put the food away, and then went back out to look for wedding stuff. Then I came back home and spent several hours cleaning out the kitchen. It was exhausting, but now everything is clean and arranged the way I like it! It was a good day.
Sunday was a day of providence. Evan and I intended to spend the afternoon futon shopping, so Em can have something to sleep on this weekend. At lunch, just making conversation, I told our friend Kathryn (wife of Ashley) of our plans for the day. Immediately she said, "Do you want our futon?" !!! I've always liked their futon and didn't even know they were getting rid of it. I was so excited. Then she said, "Oh, and we also have a queen mattress." I couldn't believe my ears. They're throwing that in for free! So, two big furniture purchases looming over my head were taken care of in one day- and very cheaply! With our newfound free afternoon, Evan and I went to Target and started our registry there. Yay!
Later in the afternoon, we drove out to Ashley & Kathryn's in the Thing. I had not ridden in the Thing in at least two years. Back then, it had features like suspension and shocks. Now even the fenders are coming off. Thankfully, he has just bought a very decent car from a friend of his and will have it by the end of the week. Anyway, we made it there and loaded up the futon fairly easily, but on the way home the Thing started overheating and we had to pull over. Evan knew exactly what to do, but watching him deal with exploding pipes and boiling hot poisons, I was like "You are getting that car TOMORROW." I don't like him doing dangerous things. At all. :P Unfortunately, his work schedule won't allow him to get tags, etc. for it until Wednesday. Pray that the truck doesn't do him any harm before then. At least we made it home, which I considered another act of providence. :)
Now I'm tired of typing.

Date: 2004-07-19 01:19 pm (UTC)i've gotten a couple of cast off mattresses from my parents, they went through an indecisive spell about what type they liked. the funny part is my mom weights practically nothing, so it was like only 1 side was used. teehee. plus we only use them for guests. which we never have.
