Hi guys. Thanks so much for all your prayers - I know they made a difference! Evan is fine. He has a sprained neck, a gashed-up knee, and a lot of bruises, but other than that he's totally fine. Basically what happened is this: a guy in a Volvo shot across six lanes of traffic and came up one lane short. He screeched to a halt in front of Evan, and since Evan had nowhere to go, he ran into him and then bounced into a gas station area, where he ran into another car and a gas pump. All of this was the other guy's fault even though he didn't do the actual hitting. The other guy isn't insured- of course :P- but Evan has uninsured motorist insurance, so his insurance company should take care of the situation. Also his medical bills, since Evan was put in an ambulance almost immediately because of his neck pain. (They don't mess around with neck pain.) Anyway, we have no intention of suing anyone. Hopefully things will go well and we won't have to do much.

I finally got a call from him at 10:30, left work, and went to the hospital to pick him up. I was so relieved to see him walking and okay. We went to the apartment so he could rest a while, and then spent the afternoon driving around getting things taken care of. His cell phone was crushed in the wreck, and he doesn't have a land line, so we went to pawn shops trying to find a similar phone he could plug his card into. He ended up ordering one off of Ebay, but it won't be here till tomorrow or Wednesday. Then we went to his friend's house to pick up the Thing. I guess I should be thankful that he has something else to drive, but it made me so sad to see him climbing in through the back again, three weeks after we thought he was finished with crummy vehicles. I know God has a purpose in all this, but I can't help but feel a little futile. What was the point of buying that car? I guess we'll never know. There is good news, though...Evan's dad says that as a wedding present, he's going to help him get a good car or truck. As in, something reliable and semi-new, something that doesn't need hundreds of dollars (and hours) of repair work. I am so thankful for that.

Anyway, after all that we were both pretty bummed, so we went to my parents', and my dad took us and my brother to see The Bourne Supremacy. It was excellent. I think Bourne is the new Bond. :) Evan was hurting pretty bad after the movie, though. I had never really seen him sick or in pain before, and it was awful. I wanted to do something for him, but there wasn't much to do. So I prayed a lot. Thankfully, by the next day he was a lot better.

On Saturday, once we were sure Evan felt good enough to go out, we got a lot of things done. We finished our Target registry and did our Home Depot one in one shot. Then we booked our rehearsal dinner, which was a huge load off my mind. Also, last week we signed a DJ whom we all really liked. She recommended a more reasonable photographer (the one we've talked to is pretty expensive), so we're meeting with him on Wednesday. I have a good feeling about him. After that, the only really big thing we need to book is the florist. Woo hoo!

Sunday was a nice day. At church, the wife of one of our Sunday School leaders shared about their recent mission trip to Guatemala. It was very eye-opening. (Did you know Guatemalan children only go to school four hours a day?) I also got to talk to [livejournal.com profile] admael between services. Her new haircolor is very cool. :) After church we went to lunch at Mozzarella's, which Evan and I enjoyed more than usual since we're cutting way back on our eating out. In the afternoon I took a refreshing walk, and later Ryan came over to eat spaghetti with us. I also made an apple pie for Evan- it's his favorite. It was much better than the last one. My cooking is improving! Yay!

So that's what I've been doing. Despite the drama, it ended up being a pretty nice weekend. Our time together was even better knowing how much worse the accident could have been. I can't wait to be married. 110 days! And tonight Kathy is coming over! I haven't seen her since her wedding. This is the longest we've been apart in...well, a long time. :) So I'm excited about hanging out with her. God is good.

I'm glad Evan is ok. I thought about you guys over the weekend. Although I still am feeling indignant, on your behalf, that his insurance is having to cover things. Who got the ticket? How could you own a Volvo w/no insurance? That's just crazy!

That's great news about the photographer & DJ too! I'm going to go peek at your Target registry and see what kinda goodies you picked out!

Supposedly the guy and his wife own 3 cars and were in the process of shuffling their coverage around. They have insurance on the other two cars. :P It's a nice story, but if that's the case, why drive the car that doesn't have insurance? Pretty dumb.

I'm so glad Evan is okay, although, I'm sure he's in lots of pain--poor guy! I can't believe that other driver wasn't insured!!! How irresponsible!

I'll continue to keep the whole situation in my prayers.

Wedding plans seem to be coming along swimmingly ;-)

Thanks! I've actually thought of you this weekend since this is what you went through, only yours was a lot worse. :\ Thanks for praying!

Evan has uninsured motorist insurance

Seriously, thank God. That's wonderful news and wonderful news that his dad is going to help with a new car. I was worried about you both and I'm so glad things are back on track. -big big hugs-

As for the cooking improving, mine is as well. =) Part of this is because I'm determined to cook good dinners for [livejournal.com profile] poormattie every night. When you have to cook (and eat) every night, your cooking starts to get better a lot quicker. =)

:) Thanks for the prayers. *hugs* Sorry I didn't update this weekend. I felt bad because I knew some people would be worrying, but things were pretty crazy.

Yay for better cooking!

Take good care of Evan.

And if you need a cookbook, mine is online.
Quantum Cooking: Thyme Travel through Hyperspice (http://www.geocities.com/valarltd/cook.html) Much of this is stuff I learned to cook in the first year of my marriage.

Don't let the odd titles put you off (I was having fun), or the bad page colors. One day i will get all that fixed.

That's Sharon Gless as Debbie Novotny from "Queer as Folk" (US)

She's a widowed mother who works in a diner. She was caring for her brother in the last stages of AIDS (he died) and she basically plays Mom to everyone on the show. Except Carl, the police detective. Carl just proposed to her. (they met when she found the body of a young man in her dumpster)

She's "larger than life with a mouth to match" and takes the phrase "it takes a village" seriously. And she's a one-woman village.

I want to be able to embarass my kids into good behavior as easily as she does all of hers (whether her one bio-kid or all the boys around).

:) Yeah, sometimes embarassment can be a good motivator.

God is good. Always a pertinent reminder. :) I'm glad Evan's doing well, and that your weekend turned out nicely, and that you get to spend time with Kathy tonight. Congrats on the pie, too. Haha.

By the way, you prove that older journal layouts can look even better than the new ones. Kudos! (Did I really just use that word? :P)

:D Hey, thanks! I was using sidebar layouts for years and went back to Generator a few months ago. It's my favorite. I think it's the best and cleanest-looking of all the layouts.

I'm so glad Evan has good insurance. Michigan is a no-fault state, and sometimes I think that makes things way more complicated than they should be. I'm pleased to know there won't have to be any legal headaches on your hands.

:) Thanks. I'm glad too. We might look into getting help if things don't go well, but neither set of parents thinks we need to take any action, so I'm fine waiting-and-seeing right now. I have no idea how legal stuff works.

Ugh! Are you sure you don't want to chase that guy down?? Neck pain is nothing to mess around with... it could cause problems down the line. My voice teacher practically forced me to call a lawyer last fall after the "drunken assault accident." Fortunately, she was insured and I didn't have to pursue the suit. But you might think again about trying to get some compensation. He broke the law and showed irresponsibility by not having insurance. He should be forced to pay for his error.

I'm mad for you. It's really hard to keep paying for new cars and whatnot when you're just starting out. I know, Phillip's is falling apart and we're wondering how much longer it will hold out. And some of these problems wouldn't have happened if his brother had gotten the insurance info from the guy that rammed into him!

Anyway.... I'm glad he's ok! That is a happy ending at least! :) *hugs*

Well, if things start to go bad we'll probably do something.

Thanks for relating. :) I wish we lived closer. It would be fun for us to hang out with you and Phillip. He and Evan would get along great.

I know!!! And Phillip would like to hang out in Memphis a lot more, I believe... He likes ribs. :P Hahaha...

Phillip actually had a car problem last night. He had a blowout on Hwy 75!!!! I'm so thankful he wasn't hurt... It could have been a lot worse. But we spent this morning getting it fixed and all is well.

*hugs*

I'm so proud of you two. You're both handling things so maturely.

And this, I also made an apple pie for Evan- it's his favorite ,was quite an endeavor! I remember making them from scratch with my grandmother. Making the designs on top was the best part. :-)

May I have your snail mail address?

You can send it to me: mystcpza@gmail.com If you're not comfortable though, that's okay too.

Oh, hehe. Well, still, with all that's been going on...some of those cans of filling are pretty big, & tough to open. :-P
