I am going to contact some lobbyists in Washington and get them to petition for a Bridesmaid's Leave.

Friday night was the rehearsal dinner. Since it was a Catholic wedding, there was more to practice than just standing in front of the church. Once we had figured everything out, we feasted on rolls and Coletta's lasagna. To our glee, Em discovered that the butter in her individual butter packet was shaped like the Cingular man. Much fun was had by all. After the dinner, we went home to do our nails, accompanied by MaryElaine's friend Andrea, who was staying with us.

On Saturday morning, Kathy and I went to collect MaryElaine and her luggage at 7:30 am. We picked up her sister, the matron of honor, on the way to the hair salon. The hairdo I requested didn't turn out right, and I was not happy. And the stylist had put about twenty pounds of hairspray on me, so there wasn't much I could do to change it. Since I was the only one with already-curly hair, I had to sit for an hour while the other girls got curled and fluffed, trying not to look at myself in the mirror. :P Once they finished, we oohed and aahed over MaryElaine's hair (which looked great) and went to Shoney's to eat something. As we sat eating our pancakes, a waitress noticed MaryElaine's tiara and asked, "Did you win something?" With a straight face, she replied, "Yes. I won a husband." :)

We went to the church to get ready, and spent a couple of hours shooing the photographer out of the dressing room (he kept trying to come in while we were changing). Kathy and I laced up the backs of our dress tops, which were very corset-like. Thus I had a revelation. You know how women were always fainting in Victorian times? It wasn't because women were more delicate then. It was because they couldn't breathe. Having spent 6 hours laced into a dress, I now know this firsthand. :P Those things make you look awesome, but it's all you can do just to stay upright in them. :)

Anyway, we did all the usual pre-wedding things. My hair looked better with my dress than with a button-down shirt, so I was relieved. :) MaryElaine started getting nervous. Just when we thought she might really freak out, the wedding started.

The ceremony was beautiful. It was wonderful to hear two people making their vows to each other with such conviction. I was so happy. We all cried. :) Marriage is such a miracle. And a mystery. (The Bible says so, so I shouldn't be surprised, but it keeps catching me unawares. :))

After the wedding, all of us in the wedding party had to go hide in the dressing room so people would leave for the reception. There was much hugging and congratulating. Royce made some joke about escaping, and MaryElaine said, "Too late, honey, we're married now." :) Kathy and I looked at each other and said, "Married! They're married!" and tried to process the whole thing all over again. :)

The reception was fun, but Kathy and Em and I were so exhausted that we were just trying to get through it. I drank a dangerous amount of champagne punch, since I was dying of thirst, but there were no ill effects. :) After some fun shenanigans with the toast and the cake-cutting, and a little dancing, MaryElaine threw her bouquet. She hadn't been able to get a "throwing bouquet," so she used the real one. This was a mistake. It weighed several pounds, and it ended up hitting some cousin of Royce's in the face (serves her right for trying to get the bouquet when she's only 13. ;)) She was fine, but the bouquet sort of came apart, and several girls ended up getting parts of it.

Then the bride and groom adjourned to their limo, as we threw birdseed at them with all our might. :) And the wedding was over. And we were very tired. :)

The pictures are supposed to be online soon, so I will post a link to them as soon as they're up. I had other things to talk about, but currently cannot think of them. Rest assured that I will later. :)

Hey, they got peices of the bouquet. Does that mean they're doomed to have shattered marriages??? Broken homes??? Or do they all have to share the same husband? :P

I hope not, since Em was one of the ones that got a piece of it.

It always amazes me when both people say, "I do."
