On this day in 1979, my mother brought me into the world, after 48 hours of labor and something like a week of false labor. (I was the only child in our family born naturally. Go figure.) Today I want to thank her for her hard work. :) I also want to thank you guys for all the e-cards and well-wishes. You're great!
This is definitely the rainiest birthday I have ever had. I conveniently left my umbrella in Ryan's car the other day, so I got pretty soaked on the way to work. My shoes are still drying. :P The plan for this evening had been to go to the drive-in with Kathy and the guys and a ton of RUF people to see Signs. We don't have a Plan B, but I think it's time to come up with one. :) Kathy made me some carrot cake muffins this morning, and she's coming at lunchtime to bring me Italian sandwiches from Fino's (and vanilla Coke, which never ceases to be exciting). :)
BJ (my now-former college/career minister) always says that your birthday is a time to thank God for preserving your life another year, and celebrate what He's done for you. I know God always provides for me, but He's provided a lot of biggies in the last year. It was actually on my birthday last year that I got an interview for this job, and now here I am. I have a beautiful apartment and a fun, reliable car. I have a church, at last. I have the best best friends in the world (which is not new, but they are more precious to me every year). When I really look at what God's given me, I feel like I lead a charmed life. And it makes me even more annoyed at myself for spending so much time dwelling on what I don't have...because I continue to want that, too. But He provides. And "providing" doesn't always mean that you get what you want- God "provided" a worm to eat the vine that was protecting Jonah from the sun, and Jonah wasn't happy. But it was what he needed, and so God caused it to happen. I remind myself of that every day. And I'm thankful that He is sovereign and in control. :)

I say:
you are so right. I am glad I just have to follow and not control.
Man, what a day for birthdays!
Today is also the birthday of not one, but TWO of my co-workers, and one of them said that it's also Madonna's birthday. And, of course, it's the day Elvis died, right? Just a big day, all-around :o)
Happy Birthday!
