Eight Cousins and Rose In Bloom by Louisa May Alcott*
I've read these before, but they're always enjoyable. It's about a bunch of boy cousins and one girl cousin, Rose, and their adventures as they grow up.

Mosaic: Pieces of My Life So Far by Amy Grant
I really enjoyed this. It's exactly what the title implies. If you've ever been an Amy fan, you'll like it.

Where I Want to Be by Adele Griffin
A short YA novel, told from two perspectives - a teenage girl with mental problems who's recently died, and her normal sister who's left behind. Quick and engrossing. I read it in a few hours.

Sabriel, Lirael, and Abhorsen by Garth Nix
It's hard for me to explain what this fantasy trilogy is about, and I can't say much without ruining the first book. But it's good. Kathy loaned these books to me. I liked the ending a lot. Two of the central characters are animals, a cat and dog (at least in form - they talk), so it's no surprise that they were my favorite characters. :)

Love's Unfolding Dream, Love Takes Wing, and Love Finds a Home by Janette Oke*
The end of the pioneer series. :)

Blue Shoes and Happiness by Alexander McCall Smith
I checked out this book solely because Meg Cabot recommended it on her blog. Then I discovered it's part of a series, The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency. It's about two women who solve problems and crimes in Botswana, Africa. I LOVED it - it's simple, insightful, touching and funny. I just started on the first book in the series so I can read the whole thing through. These books make me want to go to Botswana, or at least learn more about it.

Elements of Style by Wendy Wasserstein
This novel falls into the Manhattan High Society genre. It was so well-written that I had a hard time putting it down, but I shook my head a lot at the characters. They sort of reminded me of Elle's boyfriend Warner in Legally Blonde. :P Spoiled, manipulative and self-centered. It's an interesting story, though.

Oh I want to read some of those books! I really need to keep a pad of paper so I can just write books as I hear of them so I'll know what to check out at the library.

Do the * just mean multiple books? What was your favorite this month? The last two intrigue me the most.

Blue Shoes and Happiness by Alexander McCall Smith

I'm so glad you liked this one! Just wish you'd found the first one first. ;) I adore this series -- it's just *peaceful* somehow. There's a brand-new one out, too.

Alexander McCall Smith is one of my new favorite authors! I read The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency in April, and it was really good. I'm looking forward to reading more in the series, and there are several more out already! But what I like even better is his Isabel Dalhousie series, which starts with The Sunday Philosophy Club. I just finished the third book in that series yesterday.

Yeah, I noticed that he also wrote the Portuguese Irregular Verbs series, and I remember you really liked that one. :)

I read Amy Grant's book. It wasn't the usual chronological order of autobiographies that I've read, but it was pretty good. I was sorta hoping she'd talk more about her divorce from Gary Chapman. I don't remember why they divorced.

Actually I was surprised she talked about it even a little! She managed to keep that whole thing really private. I think the assumption about the divorce was that she left him for Vince. She and Vince really do seem like soul mates, though. I'm glad it ended happily for her.

Good taste!
