big deals

I'm going to watch the Big Game at my parents' house tonight. They have invited a lot of people, so it should be fun. Em and Ryan (and probably Evan) are coming, too. I just talked to my mom, and she said they've pulled all the Hurricanes stuff out of the guest room and hung it in the living room. Apparently a few Ohio State fans are coming. They shall not pass. :)

It's interesting how people take such different approaches to holidays and big events. I like Tradition. I like making a big deal out of things. I think people should hug and kiss at midnight on New Year's, and wear green on St. Patrick's Day, and have birthday parties. To me, those times are special. They're an excuse to have fun. But some people are like, "Big deal. Who cares? It's just another day." I don't understand that at all.

I know a lot of us have taken the Myers-Briggs test, but have any of you read Personality Plus? It's easier to understand than Myers-Briggs, and you can clearly see yourselves and your friends in it. (I'm completely Perfect Melancholy, Kathy and Ryan are both Popular Sanguine, Em is Powerful Choleric, and Evan is so Peaceful Phlegmatic, he might not notice if his head fell off. :)) Anyway, I recommend it if you like personality stuff.

I am so ready to get out of here. :)

Of what? Of the temperaments from the book? I'm looking around for descriptions, but I can't find anything. Yet.

I know! It should be a great game. But if we're losing I probably won't be able to watch. I'll have to go in the other room or something. :)

Ohio vs. Miami

I can't believe you're rooting for Miami! Well, I guess I can believe it, especially if you lived in Miami, but I live in Ohio, so I am definitely rooting for Ohio State. Plus, my sister and my friend both go there!

Anyway, I really wanted to write to you to ask you about Miami. Did you really used to live there? Did you live right by the ocean? I want to live by the ocean some day. I've been to Virginia Beach, Myrtle Beach, and we went on a cruise in California once, but other than that I don't visit the ocean much. I think there's something about being able to see the end of the vast horizon that makes me want to live by the ocean.

Yes, I really did live there! :) I grew up in North Miami Beach. We didn't live on the beach, though- it was about 10 minutes away. And we rarely went to our local beach (the one my mom grew up on); we usually went up to Hollywood. That's my beach. :)

Both my parents grew up in Miami, and my dad was scuba diving practically as soon as he could walk. So we went out on the boat all the time when I was little. I'm at my happiest when I'm in the water. Even just seeing the ocean is therapeutic for me. :) I'm pretty sure that I'll have to move back near the water later in my life, because it's just too hard for me to be away from it. I don't think I would live in Miami again, though. It's not the place it was when I lived there. :P

I'm sure that was more information than you wanted, but I got on a roll. :)

I've read Personality Plus - it is a most fascinating book. According to it, I am strongly melancoholy, and my secondary temperament is sanguine. It creates a few interesting situations, that one - it's not a common mix.

In the Myers-Briggs, I am an INTP. Personality tests fascinate me. If I wasn't doing science, I'd be doing psychology.

Oh!
998 Apologies! Thanks to the Misguided Typo #1568, I have reported an incorrect Myers-Briggs type for myself - I am actually an ISTP... (the crazy inventor type) but with my I and E score almost borderline.

Oh okay. :) Nevermind! But I, too, am borderline on the I and E.

I forgot to tell you this when I replied yesterday. I read Personality Plus! I'm am most definitely a peaceful phlegmatic. My friend told me to read it and I thought I recognized the title when she told me. So I went home and, sure enough, there it was on my dad's bookshelf. He let me borrow it. I told him I was a peaceful phlegmatic and he said, "Oh, me too!" But I was skeptical and said, "Dad, aren't you a perfect melancholy?" He said, "Well, yeah, but peaceful phlegmatic was my second highest." I always try to figure out what people are. It's fun. It really is a wonderful book and it has helped me figure out how I relate to other people and why I act the way I do.

Hey! The temperaments really fascinate me, actually. You should definitely read "Understanding The Male Temperament" by Tim LaHaye (yup, that's the Left Behind guy...). It's really good. It talks about all the strengths and weaknesses of the four major temperaments and what that means for men (and the women who love them). Like Phlegmatics are so peaceful they might never get around to asking their gal to marry them... Fun read. Really.
