a band-ish, craft-ish weekend

Happy birthday to lifeofpatrick! And to Bun, who is 7 today. :) I like St. Patrick's Day. I want to do something to celebrate, but since I don't like beer, my options are limited. Kathy suggested making smoothies from lime sherbet, so that's a possibility.

My weekend was sort of an emotional rollercoaster. Fun things happened, but I've been anxious and easily upset (and gradually getting sick), so I wasn't as happy about things as I would have been normally. But there was much to be happy about.

- I got two new shirts at Old Navy, with my giftcard from Christmas. I thought the card had 50 dollars on it, but it actually has 100. I can stretch that for months. :) I also found some cute capri pants and Ocean Pacific board shorts at the thrift store.

- The teacher's supply store near my apartment just opened a new scrapbooking department. My mom and I were in heaven. They had cute papers, 10 for a dollar. I'm excited that I won't have to drive 20 minutes to get scrapping supplies anymore.

- I saw BLAST! It was incredible. If it comes to your town, go. The colors of the set and costumes change as the show progresses. For the "green" part of the show, they did Copland's Appalachian Spring, which is one of my favorite pieces. It was wonderful. On my way out, I got my program signed by one of the drummers. My mother teased me afterward and said she noticed some eye contact. I looked the guy up in the program; he's 26 and has a master's in music. My faint dreams of marrying a band director have been re-inspired. :)

- Debra and I finally went to see Drumline, against the advice of almost everyone we know. We really liked it. I figure you have to know band to really appreciate the movie, because whoever wrote it definitely lived it. I'm going to start telling people to see it if they want to understand what my high-school "career" was like. "One band! One sound!"

- I've decided to make Debra a special "sisters" scrapbook for her graduation. I've already done two pages. I am sure I will do much sentimental weeping over this project.

- As you already know (if you care), the Tigers are 7th seed, West bracket in the NCAA tournament. Many, many locals are angry about our placement. aardwolf and others have explained the reasoning to me, and I can see everyone's point, but really. 7th seed, people! From nothing! I'm just glad we're going to dance. :)

I wonder if we'll be at war by this time tomorrow. Please pray for the President, everyone.

Are you going to see Bun on his birthday? If you do, tell him I said "Happy Birthday". ;)

7th seed is really an insult. It was also an insult last year when we did really well, and then didn't even get invited to the NCAA tournament. The other coaches have always hated Memphis (as you can see in the 8 place difference between the AP and Coaches Poll), and the RPI doesn't do us justice either.

I read an article at ESPN today that has said we're the best team to ever get a #7 seed, and they wouldn't be surprised if we made it to the final four. This came from a real ESPN staff member (the guy who does heavy research and predicts the tournament bracket each year.) He had us at a strong six seed, which is part of the reason there is such an uproar. :)

Yes, I know all this. Coaches hate us. ESPN loves us. :) I don't really understand why coaches hate us...doesn't Calipari's name mean anything to them? I guess it's just deeply-ingrained snobbery. :(

I think they're all jealous of him, so they go out of their way to make him look bad. Oh well... We'll have to overcome our image with good basketball playing. :)

That is an adorable icon!!! I've always wantesd a bunny, but my mother won't let me get once since we ahve cats. I say that cats and bunnies can peacefully co-exist. Unfortunitely, my mom doesn't agree with me.

Thanks! :) One of my bunny books has a section about introducing bunnies to other pets, so you're right; it can be done. All the same, I don't think I would trust Gandalf with Bun. I'd be way too afraid that he would hurt him somehow, especially since he's heading into his golden years and isn't as fast as he once was. :)

Two things:

1. Appalachian Spring is the most wonderful piece of music. No wonder they call Copland "America's Bach".

2. Pray for the President. Indeed. I was thinking today what I would do if I were in Bush's position right now. The answer is probably run to the nearest corner and cower in the fetal position until it's all over. What a burden is on him. He needs support.

BLAST! rocks! I've never seen them live, but I saw a PBS special about them, or something. I'd really like to go see it, because I love the whole drum 'n' bugle corps stuff and would like to see it close up...where it's louder ;o)
