thinking ahead

Well, Drunk Man's insurance company called me back, and I'm taking my car to the auto body tomorrow. They're also providing me with a rental car, which my dad says is the least they can do. Everything has gone very smoothly so far. It almost seems too easy. *knocking on wood*

I notice Lawson isn't around today. How many think he's taking his 50th vacation day of the year and/or is still asleep? Show of hands? :) I swear...I get one week a year and have to hoard it like gold, and he gets to go, "Gee, there's a game on today. I think I'll stay home." And yes, Lawson, I know that you have to take it or lose it, so please, no lectures. :)

The lineup for Memphis in May was announced this morning. I'm kind of disappointed; last year was better (and I didn't even get to go). On Friday we have India Arie, John Mayer, and (Shana, our favorite guy) Joe Cocker (whom I would only go see to throw tomatoes at him). On Saturday there's Ingram Hill (woo hoo!), Willie Nelson, Jack Johnson, 3 Doors Down, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Sheryl Crow. And on Sunday night we have Nickel Creek, the B-52s, and Default. I know Luke and Myla will want to see Nickel Creek, so I might end up going then, but Saturday seems like the best deal. Ryan's office building is right on the bluffs, though, so we might just listen from up there. :)

I'm helping Ryan move on Saturday. He's moving in with our (male) friend Ashley from church. It's going to be strange not to see him and Evan in the same apartment anymore. Evan is moving in with an (in my opinion) questionable friend from their mudding group. I may never see him again once he moves, which I guess won't be any new loss since I never see him anyway.

But American Idol is on tonight! That will make everything okay. :)

Let's see.. it's March, which means that's day #6 for the year. You don't have to be a playa hater just because the man doesn't give you vacation days... :P

It sounds like there will be a lot of good music this year (as usual.) That's a bummer about Evan though... It's always dangerous to move in with "questionable" people... too often they'll influence you for the worse (or at least, that's how it looks... I've never experienced that myself.) Also, glad to hear Ashley is a guy. :P

Yes, I usually refer to him as "Boy Ashley" to prevent any more people from yelling, "Ryan's moving in with a girl?!??" :)

Yeah, I noticed Lawson's absence, too. I should know by now that it means he took a day off at the last minute. "By the way, I'm not coming in." :P

I forget, Lawson...how long can you go before you lose the days? One year's time?

What is Memphis in May? I mean, obviously a concert series, but it is cheap or special in some way? Is it outdoors?

I'm not quite sure what that means, but let me try to explain. I'm already at the maximum number of days allowed to carry over from June 31st to July 1st. SO, unless I use the days at the rate at which I accumulate them, they will be converted to sick days. When I leave the University, I get paid for vacation days, but not sick days.

Memphis in May is a big thing every year. Each year, we celebrate a certain culture. When I was in elementary school, we celebrated France, and I sang a solo (the French national anthem, in french of course) to a group of french emmisaries. No wonder they don't like Americans anymore. :P

Yeah, I meant to answer this yesterday, but I didn't have time. The main point of it is to celebrate a certain country, like Lawson said- this year it's South Korea. We have exhibits and artsy things and food festivals focusing on that country, all month. But we also have the music festival to kick it off, the Memphis Barbecue Festival in the middle of the month, and the Sunset Symphony at the end of the month. We go to the symphony every year. :) You can learn more about it here (http://www.memphisinmay.org). It's pretty neat.

I'm rather disapointed with the line-up this year. I think the line-up just gets worse and worse every year. Two years ago I went to the "NAshville Riverstages fest and it was awesome! The stages were right next to each other so you didn't have to walk across mud to get to the next show. Train followed by the Wallflowers... now that was a line up :)
