I had lunch today with the regular Wednesday lunch crew, plus [livejournal.com profile] rawee1! I was glad to meet her! She's extremely nice. She lives just a few blocks from me, so I've found a neighbor! Yay. Also, she and I might start lunching more often since I like having lunch with people. :)

Speaking of neighbors, we still don't have any across the way. The apartment across from us has been vacant since March, and as far as we can see, the workers have done next to nothing to clean it up. Hornets keep making nests on the door frame- people keep coming and getting rid of them, but they're always back a couple of days later. It's creepy.

Last night I went to Tuesday Bible study in its new location downtown. The message was exactly what I needed to hear, and now I have some new things to work on. We went to Friday's afterwards, and I had half a slice of cheesecake and then berated myself. :(

I ordered two new books this morning. I really can't afford them, but I thought they would help my spiritual outlook. Ever since I went to California, I find I have no money. Perplexing.

In a surprise turn of events, my favorite cousin, Tiff, is coming to visit next week with her two sons, whom I've never even seen. The last time I saw her was at her wedding in 1998. When I was little, she came to stay with us every summer and we would spend months riding bikes and playing Barbies. I'm so excited about seeing her. :)

Today is a better day.

Cheesecake! I hate you! JK

Those sound like good books. Of course I'm iffy on the first one. I bet I could benefit from the 2nd one. I have a bucket full of homeschooled girls on my friends list who have really changed my perspective on what it means to be a woman and a wife. The funny thing is, it just doesn't work in our household Jason doesn't expect or require these things of me. We're quite equal. I wonder if God will change his heart or if our "set-up" is pleasing enough to God. We'll see.

I got married in 98. I cannot imagine having 2 kids already. Yikes!

Any more news on your possible trip to Michigan?

Well, I got a good recommendation for the second book, so I'm giving it a shot. It doesn't sound belittling like those other womanhood books. :) I'm glad you and Jason are more equal. It's hard to find a Christian guy who doesn't expect to be waited on hand and foot by his wife. :P

Nope, no news yet, but I'll let you know as soon as I find out. The wedding is the last weekend in August- I know that much.

I have heard excellent things about the first book you linked (Desiring God); you should ask [livejournal.com profile] injoy about John Piper, as she was the one who got me interested in him (although I still haven't read a great deal of his stuff). Christian Hedonism is an interesting subject.

We had hornets/wasps like that in our back yard back in NC; no sooner would we eradicate a nest than they'd be back making another. I really don't want to live in a hot/humid area for a few reasons, but one of them is certainly their propensity to attract stinging insects.

Yeah, it's been recommended to me by many people. I've been having a hard time delighting in God lately, and that book was confronting me at every turn, so I decided I had to read it. :)

Do you guys not have a lot of insects there? I didn't notice very many when I was there. This is my first experience with stubborn hornets, and I'm finding it scary in a Hitchcock sort of way. The Hornets.

Hornet is the mascott for Sac State (where I graduated). Since we live in a drier area, there are fewer bugs than in other places. I would think you guys have a lot more than us. In Texas there were SOOOO many crickets, roaches, etc. Here I rarely see crickets, I just hear them. On the down side, there are no fireflies. :(

We don't have a lot of insects, no; like Jessica said, that's mostly because of the dry weather here. There aren't so many plants for them to eat or moist places for them to stay.

The only insect we do have in profusion (in my experience) is ants. They were all over our apartment last year, as you may recall from my whiny LJ posts on the subject. They haven't returned yet this year, and I'm beginning to think they're overdue, since they were around when I moved in Sept. last year, and that's less than two months away now. Ants are such a big problem here that the UCD college newspaper has had cartoons trying to make light of the situation. (-:
