Since it's 3/11, everyone should do their civic duty and listen to a 311 song today. :)

Yesterday morning I stepped on something in my apartment...it may have been a shard from a glass Gandalf broke recently. Whatever it is, it's firmly lodged in my foot, and I can't walk flat-footed because of the pain. I have tried repeatedly to get it out, but I can't find it in there and I am a wimp. Evan thinks I should go to the doctor and have them take care of it, but that seems over-reactionary. We'll see how I feel about it in a few days. :P Ironically, I can walk fine with heels on, so the Rampage shoes are making a comeback.

I watched a few minutes of Jay Leno last night and saw a far-off shot of Elijah Wood getting ready to come out. He was wearing a pinstripe shirt and jeans, and I thought, "Is that Clay?!?" But at least I wasn't too disappointed to find out who it really was. :) He seems like such a great guy. I want to see Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, mostly because of him. Also, it looks so weird it's bound to be interesting.

I haven't heard it yet, but apparently there's a new local radio commercial about being addicted to McAlister's tea. It goes something like, "I am not addicted. I just pick one up when I'm taking the kids to soccer practice. And sometimes coming back from soccer practice. And on the way to work, and on the way home from work..." Yes, I am not alone.

I say "apparently" way too much. I'm working on speaking more concisely. :P

YAY for George! I like him so much. He, Jennifer, Latoya, and John Stevens are my favorites in the final twelve. Suzy got robbed, though. And Jon Peter Lewis- America's choice? America, what are you smoking?

Girl, I concur with Evan. Especially if there's a chance that shard is glass! : (

Oh, thanks! No one has to congratulate me, though, especially since it's not till tomorrow. I almost didn't mention it for that very reason. :)

I firmly believe in the Fiddler on the Roof lyrics from "L'Chaim": "God would like us to be joyful even when our hearts lie panting on the floor; How much more should we be joyful when there's really something to be joyful for! To us and our good fortune! Be happy, be healthy, long life!"

So I will congratulate you again! : )

Me, too! It's my favorite of the songs from the play. "We'll raise a glass and drink a drop of schnapps in honor of the great good luck that favors you...we know that when good fortune favors two such men it stands to reason we deserve it too!"

Glass in foot solution...

Here's what I do when I get a splinter or something similar - find someone who has kids and ask them to dig it out - they are used to doing gross things like that and, in my experience, have always been the best at removing objects lodged in places they shouldn't be, like glass in your foot!

I'd go to the doctor. Typically glass works its own way out of the skin in time, but since it's the bottom of your foot, it may not have the opportunity.

Baptist Minor should be able to dig it out for you.

Hey! We have the same tulips! :) :)

Happy 6 months. It's getting serious now ;)

You should let somebody get that glass out of there. An infection would hurt even worse! It would not be an overreaction. :nudge:

I've been remembering that your 6 monthaversary is tomorrow, and thinking of you two! Do you have fun plans? That's cool that it's on a Friday.

I once stepped on some glass that got into my foot. I "operated" on it for what seemed like hours. No one else in my family could even tell what I was trying to get out, but finally it emerged and it was a small shard of glass. What a beautiful story! Here's to getting the glass out on your own.

Yes, we're going to Seize the Clay!

Truly an Oscar-worthy tale of heroism and bravery. Well, if you can get it out, maybe I can too. I just can't inflict pain on myself, and Evan won't dig it out for me because his pain tolerance is much higher than mine. :P

Well when you're determined to get it out, it doesn't seem as painful, especially when you're doing it yourself. Get some tweezers, maybe a needle, and go to work! The bottoms of your feet shouldn't be quite as sensitive, and you'll be glad when it's done. Better than having the doctor do it. It might help to put ice on it to numb it a little.

Yeah, the point of the doctor was so they could numb it. But ice might do okay. It's annoying because I can't even see whatever it is. And it might not be glass at all...it could be a splinter. It's happened before. All I know is, my foot was bleeding after I stepped on whatever it was.

I'd be getting that checked out, I think...

As for American Idol...I'm guessing that most people only voted for their top choice. He could have been America's fourth choice, if the judges' picks were all in America's top three.

Like you, I just don't see it.

if you are not careful, glass shards can work their way into one's bloodstream and go to the heart or brain and cause death. Better to go to the doctor.

Ouch! My condolences about your foot. The other day I stepped hard on something that turned out to be a broken sewing machine needle (it had fallen out of the trash or something) and it went through my sock (wonder of wonders, I was actually wearing socks.) and all the way into my foot with just a teensy bit sticking out. That HURT. I usually do not literally cry over pain but I admit it, I cried! Once it was out it was fine. I can't even tell where it was.

It might help to soak your foot in hot water for awhile. Sometimes that helps get stuff out. I'm speaking from the experience of one who goes barefoot in absurd places all too often...:-P And yeah, try prodding it to come out yourself because like Jessica (I think?) said the bottom of your foot shouldn't be too sensitive. I like how someone suggested getting someone who had kids to get it out!! Very good advice!:-D Anyway, don't you like how you can say you have glass in your foot on LJ and immediately you have a dozen people suggesting remedies? Can you imagine that in real life? We all go rushing over to you and pipe up with, "I agree with Evan, go to the doctor!" "JUST DIG IT OUT YOURSELF!" etc. etc. ...sorry, the imagery is just kind of amusing.;-) But here's to speedy healing of that foot!

And Happy monthiversary!

LOL! I love your comments Ruthie. Thanks. :) We are kindred spirits in our barefootedness. I don't like wearing socks most of the time.

And OUCH about the needle. Man, I can't even think about that.

It is hilarious to think of it that way! : ) It seems so natural here, but if it was at, say, church, it would be completely weird and annoying!

Have you tried soaking your foot in a bath of epsom's (sp?) salts and then working it out? That helps a lot to soften the skin, to draw out impurities (even glass shards!), and to clear out any infections.

Just an idea as a last resort before the doctor!

-Katherine

Yay!

My brothers and I were always getting into scrapes (there was one time when my older brother, Ben, literally stuck a pitch fork through his foot... OUCH!), so we learned to utilize home remedies first, especially since I am horribly afraid of the doctor!

I hope it helps!
