February Book List
Feb. 26th, 2009 11:45 amI won't be finishing any more books this month, so I'm going ahead with the list.
Frenemies by Megan Crane
I LOVED this book. It's about a thirtyish woman whose supposed "friend" of ten years steals her boyfriend with absolutely no remorse, and what she and her two best friends do about it. But there's more to it than that, including a Logan Echolls-like love interest. :) The author's note at the back says she was inspired by Mean Girls and how it translates into the adult world. I think she did a great job. It read like something that could have happened to my friends and me in some alternate universe.
Why We're Not Emergent: By Two Guys Who Should Be by Kevin DeYoung and Ted Kluck
An interesting, respectfully-written critique of the emergent church movement. I'm totally in agreement with the authors. However, the book was a lot to process in a short time. If you're curious about the whole topic, I recommend this.
Category 7 by Bill Evans
A novel about rogue weather experimentation that results in the worst hurricane in history. I wanted to love this book, but it never got past okay for me. Some of the writing was really overdone (the blurbs from the perspective of the hurricane were way past my threshold for cheese).
Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast by Robin McKinley
The title pretty much says it all. :) I liked this a lot.
How to Start a Home-Based Professional Organizing Business by Dawn Noble
I started this book right after New Year's, with great excitement. By the end I was slogging through. It's very thorough and informative, and I plan to buy a copy for future reference (I got this from the library). I was just personally overwhelmed by the amount of business activities she recommends. I'm only interested in taking on a few organizing jobs at this point, not hooking up a separate phone line and forming an LLC. But that's not the book's fault. :)
