but not a real green dress, that's cruel
Sep. 16th, 2002 02:47 pmHalloween candy is already out. This means candy-corn pumpkins. I bought a huge bag of them at lunch and have already eaten more than I care to admit. I do this every single year. It is bad. In about 3 days, Pumpkin Shock will set in and I will be unable to have sugar for a month. :P
Time goes by, and I still do nothing to my journal style. I would like something with a sidebar, and then the "generator" style in the middle. I would also like a fun background. I have no idea how to do any of this and it would take me months to figure it out.
Rambling aside, I am posting again because I remembered a conversation we had at lunch yesterday: what we would do if we were as rich as Bill Gates. :) It makes me happy to think about what I would get for other people, not for me, if I had that much money. I think it's a good indicator of who's most important to you.
If I had 90 billion dollars...
- I would get a house in the Keys for my parents, and a nice boat to go with it.
- And a little house for my sister to live in, wherever she wanted to go to school. And I'd pay for her school, if she couldn't get a scholarship.
- I don't know what my brother would want. Probably a vehicle of some sort.
- I would buy Kathy one of every item at the Petite Sophisticate. And a new car that won't break down every ten feet.
- I would pay off Em's student loans.
- I would buy Evan some land so he could go mudding whenever he wanted, and some money so he could start a 4x4 parts store and not have to throw boxes around all day. :)
- I would get Ryan the Harley he has always wanted.
- I would buy MaryElaine and Royce the dining room set they've been saving up for.
- I would give a tenth to my church. Obviously.
- I would give to a struggling inner-city ministry.
- I would give to U of M, on the condition that the money be spent to hire quality professors, not to build more fountains and clock towers.
Please think about this and share your lists! :)

Date: 2002-09-16 01:29 pm (UTC)Okay, how I'd spend that money... well it sort of depends on if I had it or won it. If I suddenly acquired it, I'd have to take a lot of time to organize, pray, and research where it should go. If I had it, I'd probably be used to spending it. Anyway..details..shut up, Jessica, and answer the question. :)
-At least 10% to my church
-Pay off all the debts of my immediate family (and myself, duh)
-Buy homes and cars for all of my immediate family
-From there I would have to take each situation on a case by case basis. I would want to help people in need and be generous, but not do anything that would hurt them in the long run. I would want to give to charities, churches, and God's work in general, but I would want to be wise about it.

If I had a 90 billion dollars, I would give several million to all of my current and former churches. The Catholic Center down here is having a really hard time raising enough money for the renovations they so desparately need. And I think the Catholic Center at Memphis could use a new building that is much cooler than the one they have now.
Other than that, I would obviously pay off everyone's loans, and buy them nice houses, and new cars, and give lots to charity.
(I thought about this a lot last year when the PowerBall got to like $395 million- which unfortunately I did not win. :( )

Date: 2002-09-16 08:51 pm (UTC)I love the little candy hearts during valentines.
Bill Gates only have a small sum set aside for his kids I think it was like 5 million each. He has 2 kids I think. I think he could give them a little more myself.
